buying a new used 100 gallon tank

I've been looking for a similar type tank for the last 2 months and I would agree it is a good deal especially if the stand is sound and you are getting a hood & lights...good luck

    Eheim Media Advice

I picked up a couple used canisters on ebay and could use some feedback on media. I have an Ecco 2233 that will go on what I hope to be a 60g planted small fish community tank. The second is a 2217 which for now will be on a 120 with a variety of large/messy fish to clean up after. Thanks...

    Water Softners

I'm getting conflicting information on softened water from lfs and reference materials on the effects of softened water. I have had no problems with mature fish in my sons tank but would like to start a planted tank of my own and am not sure what to plan for. If I can't use softned water the...

    FILTER questions and GSA

We had the same problem with a Magnum on my sons 55. It didn't seem to have enough pressure to keep the hoses clear. He replaced it with a Rena XP3 and he loves it. Good Luck

    Show Me Your Plecos!!

Beautiful fish! I wish I had my camera to help identify the Pleco my son gave me. He is about 4" long right now and changes color pattern like a chameleon when stressed. Is that typical of a certain species? I'm am certain he is a male from Jchillin's description...

    python question

neilanh makes a great point that any low drain access is definitely the easiest route for drainage if one is available, perhaps a laundry room floor drain or outside access door ...Good Luck

    python question

If your hose is full of water instead of air when you start the suction I believe you will have better luck so you could add a little to fill the hose before you start. You also need tight connections to help avoid losing your prime so you could check the washers on your hose. Good Luck

    Substrate Choice

I'm still in the research mode for new 50 (my first startup) and the only thing I am certain of is I want some low light plants. I would like a natural looking bottom and wondered if a mixture of pea gravel and this Turface compound I keep seeing refered to would be appropriate? Can pieces of...

All the wrong stuff - now trying to fix it....

I feel your pain hydra, I to tried to save fish from the dumpster for a friend as you are. I kept them alive with frequent water changes but also made the mistake of vacuuming the gravel initially. I was eventually able to give the orphans to a lfs before any losses. Good luck and welcome!

    New Hobby

My son has a Magnum 350 on his 55 so I thought I might go with that since I'm familiar with its' operation. Would you recommend the biowheel that now comes with them? Thanks for the advice on craigslist as I have limited my search for used to ebay. I have been doing frequent water to changes...

    New Hobby

Thanks for the feedback. I think I'm going to be limited to 125 for the space I have so I guess I'll work off of that. My son thinks I should go small and get rid of the large fish but my wife likes the responsiveness of the Oscars. I have been doing frequent water changes to try to maintain...

    New Hobby

Greetings, I inherited the job of caring for my sons 55 gal. tank last semester and now it seems my wife is hot for us to have one and help him out by relieving some over crowding. I've been flying in the dark and luckily have not killed anything yet. My question is how large a tank would I...
