green hair algae or Java Moss????

I have a 55 gallon Mbuna tank setup. I've heard they like to graze on algae but all that i get in there is brown algae. Would the mbuna cichlids like it if I moved some into their tank???

green hair algae or Java Moss????

I have a 6 gallon tank with an anubias bartieri and 6 dwarf sags. 6 weeks ago I notice a 1/2" string of growth on one of the anubias leaves. It grew quickly and I thought it might be a piece of java moss that piggybacked into the tank. It is now filling about 1/4 of the tank. it is very fine and...

    unusual schoolmates?

I had a male paradise fish that used to leapfrog around and play with my 5 panda corys. He was three times their size! They accepted him and everyone got along fine.

    plecos and acrylic tanks

I used an acrylic cleaning sponge. It looks like water spots only it's below the water line. I didn't breed them but there is a person in our aquarium club that has a very prolific breeding pair of albino bristle noses. He auctions off 40 to 50 per month. I picked up 35+ last month for $13! :D...

    plecos and acrylic tanks

Can a pleco damage an acrylic tank? I have had some baby bristle nose plecos in an Eclipse 6 for a month and I noticed that they ate the algae off the tank sides but left a cloudy residue inside the tank. I tried scrubbing it today but it didn't come off. Could they chew into the acrylic???? :?:

    Peat Question

Noticed that you weren't getting any responses so I'll take a shot. If you are buying fish from lfs and they don't do anything to lower their PH I wouldn't worry too much. I keep neon tetras in relatively high PH water by acclimitizing them. (See thread in this index) I don't use carbon in any...

Best answers to questions: Tank will cycle without filter but will probably tank longer without circulation. Floating plants (anachris, hornwort, etc.) will work for bubble nest material but I use a piece of 3x4 inch white styrofoam for breeding Paradise Fish. Last time, I had fry swimming...

    Plecos and Anubius barteri

Thanks, they have been eating algae off the leaves without appearing to cause any damage. I had an algae bloom in the tank and was lucky to pick up about 40 fry for $8 at our club auction. They were all 1/4" or smaller so i put some in the 6 to clean it up until they could be moved to my 55's...

    Plecos and Anubius barteri

I have an eclipse 6 that I just retrofitted with an AH Supply 13watt PC. I put an Anubius Barteri in with my 5 neon tetras. I also have 4 small (3/8 inch or less) albino bristle nose plecos in their that have really cleared up the algae outbreak. I plan on moving the plecos as they get bigger...

    Broken heater

Whatever it is , is about the same density as the sand. Swirling the water above the sand stirs up the sand not the contaminant. That's why I am assuming it is rust.

    Broken heater

I can try to vacuum but I will also be sucking up top of sand and it may be impossible to get it all unless I replace substrate completely. I'm hoping it is inert enough to leave in the sand but if I put shellies in there and they start mucking around could it hurt their scales or skin and cause...
