I really do wish that no one gets this in their tanks....it drives you nuts when you're not aware of what's the cause...

    5 Orandas turning black!!!

Awww... thanks for asking :) The one remaining fish is recovering :) He's lost most of the black on his body and gills and face. The ammonia, pH, Nitrites/nitrates are perfect now, but it was a real tragedy. It probably would have made sense if I knew the cause, but just another aquarium mystery :(

    5 Orandas turning black!!!

Thanks Roz... I know everyone really tried hard...but I guess these things do happen... the other two guys are quite happy... but I'm quite worried about getting any more new fish although the tank looks silly with 2 fishes only :(

    5 Orandas turning black!!!

Thanks guys, but I have heard about carbon discharge as well, and we anyway never really needed it...but yeah, I completely agree Alan79, sometimes the most obvious thing would be what we missed right under our noses....and any opinion/ideas or anything now i really appreciated...as the answer...

Also, we have reduced their food to once a day.... and we're still doing water changes, however I've done only a 25% change today as the ammonia and nitrite levels seem to be stabilising.

    5 Orandas turning black!!!

Hi There, Thanks for replying. I have removed the gravel and done a thorough wash, with aquarium water so as to not lose the good bacteria. I have removed all the ornaments, except one as the fishes do like to sleep in them. We stopped activated carbon as we used Ich cure once, 1 year ago...

    5 Orandas turning black!!!

:( I really do feel so helpless... Thanks for your support though... I guess no one else on the forum really have any more clues as well. The partial good news is that the black patches seem to be going away... but I've lost 3 fishes (another one this morning) and it's quite shocking as those...

    5 Orandas turning black!!!

Merry Christmas...!! I unfortunately lost 2 of my fishes...and looks like another one is on her way to fish heaven...!! The ammonia and nitrite levels are back to normal, and so is the temperature. The fishes are losing their black, but only 2 of them seem to be active and eating. :(

    5 Orandas turning black!!!

Awww...thanks... :) I have checked my water conditioner and everything at my local fish store, and apparently the meds are fine. The guy at hollywood fish farm said that I need to continue 50% water change and feed my fishes only once a day... as the ammonia and nitrite levels did shoot...

    5 Orandas turning black!!!

Thanks guys for your replies.... I do have a fairly large stone as they love the bubbles too. I have put back the plants, and left the lid open. I can't seem to think of anything that might affect them like this....and I have not changed any of the soaps/detergents etc... as I've always been...

    5 Orandas turning black!!!

....i've already posted quite a few pics, and it's hard to get them without moving. We've had a huge rise in ammonia, so we've doing emergency water changes 50% every 2 days...one of the fishes is losing the black on the tail, but the others seem to still be the same.

Oh, the gills were also black... the pH was 7.2 one day, then 7.4 but that fluctuates without adding pH down. The fins themselves are not red... the bodies of the fishes which joins the fins are turning red

    5 Orandas turning black!!!

Ok...i still am unclear as to what the issue is...all i know is that the water hs gone wrong... the fishes are getting sore looking red patches near their ventral fins and tail... Does anyone have an idea on what this is now???!!!:(

    5 Orandas turning black!!!

I have never had a high reading for ammonia or nitrates...it was always 0...I have taken a sample of the water to my fish store and they had the same readings as well, where pH was 7.2, and I did notice that the pH has come down from 7.8 in the last few days. The tank is well cycled. I have fed...
