From PetEducation.com's "Ich in Freshwater Fish"..
From WetWebMedia.com's "Freshwater Ich, White Spot Disease"...
Raising the temp a degree an hour should be no problem as long as the temp is gradual and does not deviate by much. What I mean is, your tanks are probably around 78-80 degrees...
If you take apart ANY filter, it woud be disgusting too. I have a $300 Eheim canister filter, which I took apart for maintenance and it was pretty disgusting too. I think it was more disgusting that the detritus that my $50 UGF (UGF plates and powerheads) had on my 55 gallon tank. Just think...
Yes, it does look like ich. I had a bout with ich on my cardinal tetras about a month ago and it looks the same.
Ich needs a living host, which includes, fish, snails, EVEN PLANTS.
Ich is also present on all fish/tanks. It is generally known as the "common cold". When the fish suffers...
Yes, but this stresses out the guppy. Stress lowers the immunity, which can bring forth illnesses and even deaths.
You should feed your fry 3-4 times a day. Live BBS helps increase the growth, but it's best to feed a variety, like crushed spirulina flakes (enhances fish colors)...
I have an Emperor 280 and 400. I normally rinse out the sponge media in water. If I notice the water bypassing the sponge and just going around it, then it's time to replace it. The carbon in the sponge doesn't matter. With it not being replaced, it will slowly lose it's effectiveness, but...
UGF's are not outdated and not hard to clean. UGF's were originally used with airline hoses in the uplift tubes, which is the outdated method. The modern method is using a powerhead. This allows better circulation under the UGF plate. A UGF offers better biological filtration than a HOB...
How did you acclimate them?
What do you mean, ammonia and nitrates are undectable...do you mean, undetectable? Of so, is it off the charts? Or you have no test kit to use?
Regarding your tetra...I'm not sure what you mean by slanted stomach. But the female is usually more rounded than the male. It's also hard to tell, but the blue line on the neon has a slight bend on a female. Neon tetras are hard to breed becuase they require acidic waters. The eggs are...
Some LFSs will hold fish for you, you just have to ask around.
I own FW tanks, but I did help a friend move a 90 gallon tank with all fish from one location to another. You will need LOTS of tubs. First is...
1. Prepare some salt water for the tank about a week before. Make sure the Keep...
I agree with everyone else...A wet/dry filter...one with a large sump. That way you can throw your heater in there and a couple of powerheads. This way, the water would be warm and well oxygenated when it returns back to the tank.
shawmutt, how big is your tank? What kind of filter do you have? I'm would be worried about the fish deaths and not ignore them.
Regarding PVC piping, they work great. I glue some of the rocks from my substrate to the outside using aquarium silicone glue so it blends in.
If you have plants that require high intensity lights, then your lights may not be enough. I believe the normal recommendation is about 3 watts per gallon. The height is also a factor.
If you could post what kind of plants you have, like previously requested, someone should be able to help...
Are you sure those are bubbles or maybe particles? If the water appears cloudy, then it's probably a bacteria bloom, which normally occurs when a tank is still cycling or newly cycling. It will clear eventually, but I would monitor your ammonia and nitrITEs.
