    trimming plants

most plants can handle with 1/4 of the leaves cut. cut the worst ones this week and then when the other turn a little brown cut them. some can even take a total trim if they have a strong root system but Maybe you should post what kind of plant is in question that might help other answer

Should i get an undergravel filter for my 10 gallon community?

yep to above. something else going on with your tank. cloudyness is not normal after setup and cleaning clears(1-2hours). overstocking could/would cause this but if you are cleaning your gravel weekly w/ PWC 2 times a week it can be managed (not ideal). If you are overfeeding or doing PWC and...

    black thumb alert!

that light looks to be on the low side of the spectrum 6k and you having a 20 H isnt helping you with this. IMO I will tell you not to give up on them it is well worth it. After fighting light, algae, bad water, ferts and adding a canister CO2 injecter system I am now happy that my plants and...

    Snail outside the water?

I've got nerite snails, the only times I've seen them stay at the top is when there was low oxygen levels in the water or bad water conditions. Try putting an air stone in for a while if they drop down in the water column then you got your answer.

Is it just me or do bow front tanks hurt to look at?

it doesnt hurt my eyes but I sometimes see a little distortion but its minor. the extra space in the middle makes it one of my fav tanks to set up. Its kinda like them pictures that you have to look at just right to see the real picture. Do you have any problems with seeing them?

Would you drink your tank's water?

I consider it my emergency stash. Where I live my tank water taste better than the well water around here. (We haul drinking water) I did drink it once as a dare. Other than seeing lines in my vision im good! JK (the lines in vision mean worms). There are streams here in the mountains that you...

    advice: open bottom tank

Try it again I changed the link. oh plant locations are kinda tuff to call. most people dont like symmetry so the random look or grouping is common. When I plan plant location I do the old from where I view the tank what would look good plan. :) I have a LazyBoy about 4' from my tank and to...

    advice: open bottom tank

the plastic lip that holds the glass of most tanks. Bringing rocks up to the bottom of the upside down tank would work but you should put a piece of plywood under the big tank(to fill the gap between the bottom of the tank and the stand) to support the extra weight of the tank, water, and rocks...

    advice: open bottom tank

as far as scaping it out. building a rock wall that merged into your bottom tank would be very nice. you could place ledges at different stages that could house plants? search "foam background" in this forum and that will give you some lightweight options for the task. Welcome aboard to AA

    advice: open bottom tank

extra pressure? in a upside down tank there isnt much more pressure on either tank as the one is held up by vacuum. now if you plan on resting the weight of the upper tank on the plastic lip of the tank that is a different issue.
