thanks it was just an idea and youve helped clear things up. i was mainly worried because in summer were expecting temps up to 40 degrees c or 100 + farenheight. just hope our house cooling systems can keep the temps low enough
currently i have 2 frshwater tanks and was thinking about moving to salt water in a year or so maybe more depending on money. i was thinking of running my 4 foot 44 gallon as a fowlr and using the 20 as a sump, then many years down the track ( as in when i have a decent job) upgrading to a...
would it be better to use natural light, i.e have your tank near a window (as we have great light were i live) or use an exspensive lighting setup. As far as i can tell all your doin with the light is trying to simulate sunlight, arnt you? please correct me if im being an idiot
dont you have to seed them with a bit of dirt or sumthing and the pearl is a coating that solidifies and is the oysters way of stoppig it irritating them, thats my basic understanding of cultured pearls
im just trying to get information for when i plan to have a SW tank, what is it that a skimmer or protein skimmer actually does? i thoght the weir could rplace it apperntly m mistaken
p.s im about to finish my high school exams and have loads of projects in mind
if you have a drilled tank and say a corner wier, if you use fine filter media does it remove the nedd for a skimme? as i understand it a skimmer is to clear the surface level of water so the weir should do this right?
once my clown loaches have been moved all i will have is 6 neons and 1 CAE in my 20 gal do you think i would be ok with 2 males and 3 females in there. I like the idea of being able to have a flame red and a blue neon in the one tank
as this is a beginners thread im gonna ask what is probably a very stupid question, from my understanding you can use plain sand that isnt silica? based and seed it with live sand, as i live relatively close to beaches would it be posiible to "borrow" some.
p.s i dont plant to go into S,W for...
im not too sure but what fish you can get depends on the temprement of your betta. i kept neons and a betta fine, but a more agressive one may be a problem with tetras, can anyone confirm this??? but what ever you do dont kepp dwarf gouramis there bright colours will make him a target
ooh i didnt know that the airstone could deprive my plants of c02. i have to HOB filters they dont create many bubble but move the surface a fair bit would this create enough oxygen for my fish?
wish my problems were like this. yesterday temps reached 36 degrees C and my 20 gallon raised 2 degrees above normal temp. i used floated platic cups of ice to keep temp regulated/down. this is goin to be my plan over summer theres no way i can afford a chiller.
upon a bit of research it is apparent that hatchet fish are practically impossible to get hold of. i was particuarly interested in them ad they are active top dwellers, what others could fulfil this role in my tank??
