i have a 1/4 HP one, works good on my 125 with three HOT metal halides, even on really hot days it works good, although on those days it is on near non-stop and in the summer uses alot of electricity.

i've never had a problem with them attaching, just put the tube in a rock crevice, or bury it in the sand, leave a small bit of the tube above sand or out of the rock, and make sure it doesn't get covered. try to give it some water motion as well.
