    daphnia for convict cichlids

Hi, i'm doing a study on the effect of diet on convict cichlid coloration in school, and i'm still just in the designing stages. i figured i'd feed them with daphnia, that was fed with infusia. The media/food of the infusia will be the variable, and as the infusia is obviosuly too small for...

    Peat and PH

well, i can't get to you with the exact water parameters now, the fish tanks are set up in school. This also rules out compressed CO2 (probably not the best idea in a school) My town does have well water though, and i live close to the highschool. my PH is 7.5, KH is 4.5, i don't currently...

    Peat and PH

hi i am planning on setting up a 40 gallon long planted tank, connected by and Ehiem canister filter, and a siphon return to a 20 gallon high tank. Te plants i want to keep are amazon swords, java fern, vallisneria, hornwort, and maybe water sprite. The fish i want to breed are cockatoo...

    a question on dsb's

i'd go with the plenum, it seems to be the safe way to go(less chance of wastes building up or crahsing, but less surface area ), and works good for me, both have 1.5 in. fine sand on top of 1.5 in. crushed coral, but unless you are going to upgrade your biomass i would have to agree with...

    custom sea life chiller

i have a 1/4 HP one, works good on my 125 with three HOT metal halides, even on really hot days it works good, although on those days it is on near non-stop and in the summer uses alot of electricity.

How do you "install" a feather duster in your tank

i've never had a problem with them attaching, just put the tube in a rock crevice, or bury it in the sand, leave a small bit of the tube above sand or out of the rock, and make sure it doesn't get covered. try to give it some water motion as well.

    sand sifting help

i'm looking for some good sand sifters. today i looked into my refuge-sump and saw perfect white sand, and then looked to the main tank, brown algae on the top of the sand, and red algae in the sand pressed against the glass. i used to have nassurus, they kept the sand clean, but the 50 i got...

    Refuguim Pros, need your advice.

The best way to keep macro from going sexual is 24 hr. lights (grows double fast 2), and if anyone says don't feed your fish the macro because it introduces nitrates that you just filtered out, stop and consider that feeding any other food does the same thing. i've done good with a combo of dif...

    Tube Anemone

have you tried any "chunky" frozen foods, all my predatory corals (torch, plate, lobos, hammer, and my wellsy) all eat small chunks of clam about once a week. i've also tried chunks of squid before and it worked well. I don't know from experience what happens with a tube anemone, but whenever...

    my little project

to add some movement i think a flowing coral or an invert would be good. How about a tube anemone placed in water movement? A conch or nassarus snail would stir the sand and add intrest, or perhaps some mini brittle stars? If you did get a tube anemone it might pose a prob to your filtration...

    plankton reactor?

hi, i'm curiouse as to weather anyone here has ever used a plankton reactor, if so how does it work, and what is required for maintanance. also does a plankton reactor need some kind of CO2 injector, like a calcium reactor? or is the algae grown using light alone? thnx in advance for all...
