The most annoying thing in this hobby?

The sad part is, I actually had the chance to buy a 20g..but then my noob self thought that it would be too much work to own a 20g vs a 10g. UGH, gets to me all the time!!!! >.> I wish I knew.. Nevertheless, this hobby is quite fun.

Costs... And the fact that I have a 10g. I knew I should've got a bigger tank to start off with, lol.

    Too young for the hobby?

Bettas were the first fish I ever kept (well, technically it was my mom lol). I used to keep my 2 platy in a 1 gallon bowl (don't judge me!) but that was when I didn't have a clue about anything. They were in there for about a month until I learned all about fish keeping. Thankfully, they're...

    Too young for the hobby?

$100 a month?! Holy cow I would love to have that..lol yeah I know what you mean, when I went to my lps, they were selling 5g tanks for $76...and the heaters were $40+ depending on how many watts. It's crazy, considering it would literally take me months to save up my allowance just to get...

Dumbest Aquarium advice you've ever been given?

Today, I got to see an employee feeding the fishes. She was literally pouring handfuls of fish food to a small number of fish..and to top that off, before that, 2 employees were fighting over who should feed them, because apparently, both of them were "busy"...busy as in playing with the faucet...

Do plants actually take up ammonia?

Nitrates don't really interfere with my tank. It's always 20ppm or less. What I worry about the most in my tank has to be ammonia. Its funny you mention adding new fish, I am going to add cories soon (5) and I have been worrying about the rise of ammonia. I will have a planted tank then, though...

Do plants actually take up ammonia?

I know! I kinda lost it at the 2nd page..it was like trying to read numbers.. This question does make me wonder, more than I should. I know that plants in aquariums use nitrates, but ammonia?! It would be nice to get someone to set the record straight, haha :P

Do plants actually take up ammonia?

Do plants actually take up ammonia?

There's soo many mixed answers on this that I can't come to a conclusion. I've always thought plants only used up nitrate. I never let my ammonia levels go higher than .25ppm though. However, It would be nice to know, considering the fact that I am getting into planted tanks. Thoughts?

    Nail polish and water changes..

Alright, thank you! I kinda had a mini heart attack LOL. I'm the one in charge of everything in the tank so I always have to be ready. I'd be mad if I had to take it off though, it takes forever for my nails to dry!! thanks!! :D

    Nail polish and water changes..

Sorry if this is in the wrong section! I just finished painting my nails and realized that I might harm the tank because of it. If I do water changes the next day, will the polish somehow leech out? Argh I kinda regret painting my nails now lol Btw--I don't have gloves on hand so I really...

True Julie or False Julie Corydoras

Definitely false. The head of the cory usually tells the difference. If there's dots (just dots), then it's usually a true one; if its connected dots, or lines, then it's usually a false. Which is also why false ones are also called "3 lined cories", because the body may also have connected...
