    Driftwood Questions

Depending on the wood you get, you may not even have to tie the moss down. With my Mopani wood I just wedged the moss into a corner in the wood to hold it in place.

Do I have too many Oto's?

Tied a zucchini slice to a rock last night and found 2 Oto munching on it this morning. Great advice, thank you.

Thank you for the helpful responses, it sounds like they should all be OK. I'm going to try the zucchini tonight.

    Sudden drastic drop in pH???

Ah makes sense. My water is soft so it lacks both. All I really need to increase is the carbonate hardness (KH) I think. Thanks again all.

    Sudden drastic drop in pH???

Starting to love this forum! I researched buffering and it sounds like it is exactly the problem. My tap water is very, very soft (GH=3) which apparently means it lacks buffering agents. I am going to get some crushed seashells and put them in pantyhose in my wet/dry sump. That's safe...

    Sudden drastic drop in pH???

I've heard of buffering but I don't really understand it that well. Something about how quickly minerals are absorbed or something like that. I'll read up on it and see if that's the culprit. Thank you jeta.

    Sudden drastic drop in pH???

Thanks for the responses everyone. Yes they are live plants but I am not injecting any CO2. I know CO2 lowers pH, but if anything the plants should be absorbing any CO2 and raising my pH, not lowering it. Flourish is a plant fertilizer, been using it a month and my plants look great. Don't...

    Sudden drastic drop in pH???

I've been cycling a 90g tank for 4 months now. Never really got it to work, ammonia would drop and I'd not see nitrite. Then nitrite would appear and ammonia would suddenly stop dropping. Then both would stop. Frustrating A friend recommended raising my tank temp to 86 from 78 to help...

Sera Iron Test Kit vs. Flourish Iron

Thanks Fort. Sounds like it's best to keep a tank in the 0.1 to 0.5 range. :thanks:

Sera Iron Test Kit vs. Flourish Iron

I'm cycling my first tank (100g FW) and have everything but fish in there. I bought a 3 pack of Flourish, Flourish Excel and Flourish Iron to fert my plants. Flourish Iron says to dose once a week to maintain a healthy .1 mg/l concentration. I also bought a Sera Iron test kit to make sure I...

    Sunrise/Sunset/Moonlight setup for non-LED setup?

I am setting up my first tank and I wanted to do a good job on the lighting. I was hoping for a system that would not turn all the light on at once, then off again suddenly. After alot of reading it seems there is no easy way to set-up a timed dimmer for fluorescent lights. So my plan is to...

    Fluvall e300 Heater Problems

I know there's another thread on this already, but it says I can't reply to it because it's 153 days old. http://www.aquariumadvice.com/forums/f60/fluval-e300-heater-junk-178774.html I am a rookie at the aquarium hobby so I don't have any great advice, but I did want to document some of the...

    Hello from Waxhaw, NC

Thanks! It's a fishless cycle if I understand your question correctly rdog. I haven't decided on fish yet but I wanted a peaceful tank. I was looking at some of the "Beginner's Fish" on a website called liveaquaria.com. I think the African Dwarf frogs are really cool, but I think my 90g...
