Thanks so much for the replies! The cory that died was only 1 day out of the LFS, so that must be the case. You guys rock!

last night i went to bed with a 29 gallon aquarium holding three cory cats. no nitrites or ammonia, woke up this morning to a dead cory, and no nitrites or ammonia. Tanks been cycled ph (7.2) and temp (76 F) constant. Anyone have a clue? Did the others snuff him in the night?

I find this very interesting. Do you know of any articles that explain this further, and also goes into depth about nitrite poisoning? thank you all for the info

so by that logic no2 (nitrite) is more toxic than ammonia?

nope didn't over answer at all :) was that .5 for nitrite or ammonia? i was under the impression that nitrite is "less" deadly than ammonia.

hey just a question out of curiosity, what are the toxic levels of nitrite and ammonia? At what levels do they become detrimental to the fish? thanks in advance ^^

i put some gravel from a healthy tank in yesterday. was hoping i would at least a little nitrite by now. sniffle..... lol just bein a baby.

no i haven't done any water changes, didn't think i had to with no fish to harm in the tank.

API master test kit. filter is running great. aquaclear 50. i also have a smaller HOB filter on it right now for my quarantine tank later.

temp is 80 degrees F. Im tryin to be patient! hehe. shouldn't i have some nitrites by now?

ok heres the scoop: I started a fishless cycle 2 weeks ago. Got the ammonia to 5 ppm as suggested. oddly it hasn't gone down at all in two weeks. and still no nitrites. can anyone tell me whats goin on? Thanks for your time!
