Hi - I'm moving to Cincinnati from St. Louis and have fish that need to be reformed as I have no way of moving an established tank at this point. I would love it if someone could take all the fish - it's a 55 gallon tank (I will keep the tank and re-establish once we're settled) - have 8...

I'm thinking of changing out my smooth gravel substrate to sand (haven't decided which kind/color yet, though). How do I go about doing this in an established tank with inhabitants? I don't have a spare tank - do I just work around the fish, or ???
Thanks!
I don't have a place to put the hospital tank permanently next to my main tank, so hooking the filters together (no idea what you ever really mean) wouldn't work, plus wouldn't you just contaminate the main tank if the filters are shared?
Just re-reading - you mean have 2 filters on the main...
Right now I don't have any sick fish, but I do have a spare 10 gallon tank (it's not running or anything, but I've got everything for it). How do I go about setting it up as a hospital tank for future issues? What do I do about keeping the beneficial bacteria alive if there are usually no fish...
I'm getting some Red Rainbowfish and some Turquoise Rainbowfish. It looks like I can have a total of 7 of them according to Aqua Advisor. Can I mix and match them, or do I need a certain number of each type or sex, or ? Aqua Advisor says I need at least 5, but is that of each type, or total...
I'm tempted to buy the last fish I want for my tank via mail-order. Anyone have experience doing that - good or bad? Should I just buy whatever types my lfs has? Do the fish arrive in good condition? Any websites/vendors to stay away from?
TIA!
I'm wanting to add 6-10 Rainbowfish (depending on adult size of the particular variety obviously) and am currently looking at either:
Boesman Rainbows
OR
Praecox Rainbows (aka Dwarf Neon Rainbows)
Anyone have info on either variety or suggestions? Tank currently has a blue gourami, 10 Neon...
Yes, I know they are the same species - I read they do okay if they have enough places to hide, and the lfs people (a real fish store, not petsmart/petco). This is making me crazy - I ask people here and other places what fish go together and EVERYONE has a different opinion!
Hi - I have a 55-gallon tank and have 6 cories and 1 blue and 1 gold gourami (not the dwarf variety), along with 10 neon tetras. What else can I put in the tank that will coexist with the gouramis? Not worried about the tetras - I can put them into a 10-gallon tank if need be.
Thanks!
Thanks - they look really nice! One book I have says to add at least a pair, but AqAdvisor says to have a minimum of 5. Anyone know which is more appropriate? Looks like my tank could handle 5 if I wanted to put that many in.
Well, I actually would like a few more species in the tank as it's a 55 gallon tank. Is there something that would be more of a top-of-the-tank swimmer and compatible with the tetras?
