Went to a store in Delaware today that had 2 "Rusty Zebra Cichlids" I wasn't sure if they were the same thing. My original plan was to put 3-4 in with the Saulosis I will be getting, as I read they aren't too aggressive and thought it might work. The 2 had plenty of room, maybe 15-20 gallons...
^ haha, that must be funny to see.
I always end up watching the big oscars in pet shops for a few minutes.
Will be some time before I can get a large tank.
Any reason? You're attempting to simulate fish waste, so clean doesn't exactly describe the process.
Janitorial strength is only 10% I believe, so its not quite pure. Plus a gallon is only ~$5
Ok, well I did a ~95% water change before seeing this, and nitrite still looks at or past the deepest purple.
I'll just keep letting the ammonia be consumed though and let it run as long as nitrite doesn't go grayish.
Thanks for the help everyone!
Just did a 3:1 tap delusion and am still over 5 ppm nitrite. Tested tap and its reading 0.25 ppm. Time for a big water change. Looks like I have the ammonia consuming bacteria as it was all consumed over night.
I tested my tap and its at about 5ppm nitrate.
I'm dosing ammonia back up to 4ppm, then I'll see what I get tomorrow. If nitrites are still sky high I'll pwc to get those down and continue until I get 0-0 after 24 hours.
I'm in the process of getting my tank running. I tried adding a bottle of bacteria supplement, then dumped in some Ace Ammonia, before knowing you could add too much.
When I received my test kit the next day, levels were sky high and a 50% change didn't help. I did a ~100% change and was low...
Any recommandions for number I could handle? Or if they can go with any other fish. It seems some people add certain types of cat fish or giant danios with certain cichlids.
Sorry for all the questions, I do try to find information by searching before asking, but can't always find specifics.
The saulosi look great. That'll satisfy the yellow/orange and blue and black colors I'm looking for. The color morph sounds interesting too.
Finding these guys might be difficult. The only thing within 30 minutes is Petsmart/Petco, although I have three fish only stores within 15 minutes of...
Hey, finally got water in my tank tonight, so I'm quite some time away from getting any fish. Looking forward though, I really like the above combination and from searches it seems it should work.
I do want the fish to be happy and comfortable, so I tried to provide as much hiding places as...
Ok, thank you.
I think I'm going to start building some caves with them and get my tank filled up to begin cycling.
Is there anything in say a week, that would indicate the rocks are causing any bad water conditions?
