Phew, that is a relief. In doing a little bit more research, I wonder if he may have been burned by the heater? I guess sometimes they could be hanging out to close them and get torched that way.
Thanks for the thoughts, I appreciate it, I am very glad it does not appear to be some sort of...
I have a fairly young featherfin catfish (upside-down catfish, squeaker catfish, synodontis eupterus) that has developed a white spot on him. The fish has no other spots nor signs of being ill. No other fish in the tank show any signs of being ill, either.
As of now, temperature is at 79. I...
I'll have to try and get better shots if/when this happens again. I wish I had seen what happened to the eggs. I guess it's safe to assume they were never fertilized and that the parents ate them.
OK, I am in 'let nature take its course' mode. I'll update as needed. As of this evening (second full day of egg observation), the parents still feerishly defend their eggs and have yet to eat any.
I was going to add this to my journal thread, but decided to put it into a new topic...
55 Gallon, lightly planted
Aquaclear 70 filter, undergravel filter with 2 powerheads
1 Gold Severum
1 green Severum
1 Kissing Gourami
1 Featherfin Catfish (synodontis eupterus)
1 nerite snail...
I don't personally have tiger barbs with my cichlids, but I was told by my LFS that larger cichlids, once full grown, could devour the smaller barbs.
Terrors and devils are definitely at the far end of the aggressive side.
One final thought, as I also have a 55 gallon; I too wanted my tank...
If you have the capacity for a Synodontis Eupterus (aka upside-down catfish, aka featherfin catfish, aka squeaker catfish), get one! They do get to be about 8 inches, but are completely peaceful and are great to watch. They also do an awesome job at cleaning up spare food.
So let me make sure I understand this correctly: my Aquaclear 70 has adequate filtration for my 55 gallon tank. The undergravel trays and attached uptake tubes and powerheads don't filter anything, per se.
What the powerheads actually do is suck water up through the tubes and from the...
Well, I purchased Jungle's internal parasite guard with praziquantel. I did the first dose on the tank and will add the second dose in 2 day, as the instructions say.
Unfortunately, the electric blue is gone. I had been checking on him all evening and he eventually settled on his side with...

Well, I do have a hang-on power filter in addition to the UG. It's an Aquaclear 70 and I have a 55 gallon tank.
The lfs highly recommended the UG trays and powerheads to increase water circulation?
I'm looking for opinions on undergravel trays and powerheads for a freshwater tank. I was highly suggested them at my lfs, so being a begineer I thought that they were a must.
The more I've learned, I've seen a lot of opinions that say they're at best a useless feature & have the potential to...
