Hi, that is my smugmug page and the fish is a Demasoni. They are a great fish but you really need to have at least a dozen of them because any less and they can be pretty aggressive. I currently have 15 Demasoni juvies and the same number of Yellow Labs. They were all added at the same time and...
Well after days of reading up on the differences and peoples options of these two filters, it appears it is six of one - half dozen of the other. Both have pluses and minuses, both are about the same cost here in Canada. I have decided to go with the classic Eheim 2217. Reason being people say...
Here are a couple pictures of my 84 gallon tank. The big rocks are fake and also hollow, all my fish like to hide inside the rock instead of around it. Makes it hard to watch them.
84 Gal. Lake Malawi Tank - 3743's Photos
I am considering getting a canister filter for my 84 gallon tank. I have narrowed it down to the Eheim Classic 2217 or the Fluval 405. In Canada they are fairly close in price and are about what I can afford. I would really like to hear from anyone that is familiar with both filters and what...
I would think that a sponge has far more surface area for growing the bacteria then bio-media. It is the area throughout the sponge, not just the outside that is the medium for growing the good stuff. At least that was the way I thought it worked. lol
I am curious, what does bio-media do that a sponge does not do? I use AquaClear HOB filters with two sponges only in them. When it is time to clean them I take the one on the bottom rinse it in tank water and put it on top. Never had a problem, never used bio-media or carbon and my water is great.
Here is one that may fit your needs. I have the 36" version and I must say they are very well made and put out lots of light.
