    Angelfish red extended mouth

Thank you so much for your response. It's mouth appears to have a reddish streak on each side, and has gotten a little worse since yesterday. I do not have a hospital tank, but I've dosed my whole tank with melefix a year or so ago without any issue. Would you recommend that?

    Angelfish red extended mouth

I've had my prized Superval Angel for a couple years now. I raised if from a quarter sized baby. Yesterday I noticed a little red around his mouth. Today it seems worse and extended, as if he has something in there (but doesn't). It's a 55 gallon (with UV sterilizer) and my water parameters are...

    Crayfish not eating

With spring time often comes temperature changes inside the house, which can affect tank temperatures. You might want to check and be sure your water is not too warm or too cool

    Filter media bacteria

How long can it survive in a sealed plastic bag? My brother is in the process of building a tank, but it won't be done for about two more weeks. He will be using the same filter I have. So we've planned that I will give him my old filter media to help cycle his tank. Here's the current...

    pregnant fancy guppy?

If you've got her in the tank with males, then she is pregnant. When she has the fry, mark 28 days later on the calendar, cause that's when she'll have the next round of fry.

    Danios and white skirts

Yeah, I've already warned him about the crawfish, but that's the risk you take keeping them with any fish.

    Danios and white skirts

My brother set up a 40 gallon breeder aquarium for the first time. I've supplied him with plenty of filter media and everything seems to be going well. He has gravel substrate. I'm not new to this site or aquariums, but I tend to deal with more exotic fish. I have a couple questions. He is...

    Fish-safe Materials

Limestone will raise you hardness and Ph. Some other stones such as hematite will add harmful iron to your water. Slate is perfectly fine. You can use concrete, but it mostly contains limestone so you'll have to monitor that type of thing. I often use river stones that come in a bag from Home...

What is the hardiest fish to cycle

I've known lots of people to do this. I used pricilla tetras to cycle my first tank, then filter media after that. I wasn't good at my first attempt at cycling, and those poor fish probably should've died a few times. They even survived an ich outbreak that killed everything else in the tank...

    Rocks from Michael's

I wouldn't risk using them. You can buy river stones from home depot in a fairly large bag for about $3. I've used this in my tanks.

    Algae?

It looks like black hair algae to me. Most "algae eaters" only eat a couple kinds of algae, and black hair algae is rarely eaten by "algae eaters", the exception is the siamese algae eater. They eat the most wide variety of algae, including black hair.

Glass catfish and live plant lighting.

I added a cave (med/lrg) to my tank and my glass cats hang out in there swimming in a group during the day cycle of my lights.
