In EI the dosing compounds used for dosing Nitrogen (KNO3) and Phosphorous (KH2PO4) both provide Potassium (K). Plant deficiency (holes in old growth) is an indicator of a need to provide additional K. K2SO4 is usually used to provide seperate K dosing. 20ppm is the common target for estimated K...
How cheap you can start pressurised CO2 is directly related to how handy you are. Drs. F&S has a nice system that will run about $250 by the time you buy a tank locally. I've set up systems under $100 total by scrounging parts and injecting directly into my filter.
The drop checker is a good...
Root tabs will generally feed anything within ~4 inches of them. 4 is probably the most I'd use in a 10 gallon so 1 box is a 6 month supply.
Most successful aquarium gardeners use dry N, P, K. For trace elements It's usually CSM+B since you can get it from the same place. The Seachem stuff...

If you want plants that don't require you changing or adding to your current setup find some Java ferns. They require little more than an occasional trim to work fine in a traditional fish only gravel bottomed single tube flourescent lit tank.
It's diatoms. It will eventually go away. Add an extra filter cleaning, that may help. If you get tired of dealing with it you can filter out enough for them to die off. I've used a Magnum HOT with the paper filter coated with diatomaceous earth and there are filters FOR diatoms. They will...
Moss is a little finiky when its transferred. Expect an adjustment period of 2 weeks or so for it to acclimate to YOUR water. Growth results vary with each combination of pH, KH, GH, etc. so let it settle in before attempting to change anything. Don't trim or disturb the moss unless absolutely...
I've been getting various quarantines here using IE 7 and webroot Spysweeper. Today it quarantined the same virus nomerous times on different forum pages.

Looks like you ran out of NO3 at some point to me. It looks like you need root tabs for your swords too. Your java fern has lots of leaves that are broken or have rotted from NO3 being sucked out. Trim off those damaged leaves, they won't get any better. The alternanthera likely wants less light...
I read somewhere that it removes certain elements plants need to grow. Is this true?
No one's proven that rumor AFAIK. That said, there's not really any good reason to run carbon on a planted tank if you're not removing medication or such.
