Yea, I probably won't have any fish in there at all. I'd like to do a zoanthid and mushroom garden....so far that's kind of what I'm thinking about.
I've tried to post pictures of my progress but the app is saying my upload quota is reached??? Anybody know how to fix that??
Hello folks! Its been about 3 years since I've set up a true nano tank but decided to take the plunge and get back into it today. I had a Fluval 5 gallon I wasn't using for much so I grabbed some aragonite, about 5 lbs of live rock and some pre-mixed saltwater. Luckily I found an extra powerhead...
Trimmed a lot of the wisteria out of my tank today while doing a water change. It was starting to block off the light to my sword plant behind it. Haven't decided on a foreground plant yet but I'm leaning towards using dwarf hair grass - I think it would make an interesting addition that should...
Haha I know it! Gives a whole new meaning to "grows like a weed". I'm doing a water change Tom so I may snip some of it back.
I've been doing a little research on some carpeting plants for the foreground area. I'll report back when I've decided on something!

This would be a cool setup. For best results I would use some kind of water column fertilizer like API's Leafzone or Flourish Excel. I personally wouldn't invest in a full blown C02 system for a tank of this size but I've had good luck using liquid C02 additives in small tanks and that will fill...
Well I finally got around to adding some permanent residents to the tank! I've added 1 Endler's livebearer and 1 lyre tail guppy. Both are males and get along swimmingly! ? they will join the Otocinclus cat I've already had in there.
My plants are continuing to grow. I am thinking about adding...
@Caliban07
That's a great looking setup! I really like those swords you've got on either side. How many gallons is that?
Anyways, I'm gona keep following this thread! These little Fluval tanks make great planted nano aquariums. Will be fun watching yours grow!

Right off I'd say your bio load in that tank is too high. This could be providing excess nutrients like phosphates which will cause algae problems. Also, I've used a liquid C02 additive which will improve plant growth and cut down algae growth at the same time.

I myself started up a Fluval Spec V about 4 months ago and am really enjoying it so far! Your off to a good start it looks like. The plant on the log is an Anubias variety and will grow well under the stock lighting. I've got Anubias, Wisteria, and Amazon swords in my tank and all 3 have grown...
You guys can ignore these pictures I'm posting - I'm just kinda trying to document the progress of the tank by using pictures of the plant growth.
One question I do have.... I believe I'm ready to try and add a couple small fish. I've got 1 Otocinclus in there now to help with algea control...
Well thankfully the wisteria is taking off in my tank. I don't know that I've done anything special, although it really seemed to start growing when I started using API's C02 Booster. Next week, I'm going to add some crypts and possibly some hairgrass to the foreground areas. But first, I've got...
I've been enjoying good plant growth especially with the Wisteria during the last couple weeks. Starting to get a bit of algae growth so I have added a couple Otocinclus to combat the algea. Thinking about possibly adding a few neon tetras to have some mid-dwelling fish in there.
