I have one betta and one mystery snail in a 6 gallon heated tank. Ive had an explosion of algae... everything is green including the water itself. I’m going to start reducing the number of hours of lighting per day. My question: can i stop feeding algae wafers to the snail? I don’t know...
So my tank is from petsmart...and has the type of pump that hangs off the back with the disposable filters... are you saying i shouldn’t replace those during cycling? Or never? Just rinse off only?

Five gallon betta tank. It’s been 8 weeks and my ammonia still isn’t zero. Ive been doing frequent partial water changes for the entire time.... ammonia still at 0.25 a few days after each water change.... is this taking too long? Nitrite zero. Ph fine.

so the clear problem here is lack of cycling......and not only are you doing a fish-in-cycle, you're doing it with TONS of plants/fish....you need to check parameters daily, do 25-50% water changes when parameters off (making sure to match up temperatures and dechlorinate new water)...
