I had this problem as well and it drove me nuts. Revhtree is right, though, it'll go away. Mine finally did but I had it for a few weeks, not just a few days.
Only one of the trays in each filter has the blocks. I am not anticipating a major issue. For sure though, if something goes wrong you all can bet I'll document it here.
Hi all, I have 2 questions on canister filters. I have 2 Fluval 404's.
1. Should the water inside the canister be dumped during normal maintenance (or maybe less frequently). I do water changes once per week.
2. I thought I was running them empty but I opened one up yesterday to add some...
The sandbed is a little less than 3 inches. I'm mostly interested in removing the top layer of algea that covers it That's one reason why I vacuum. If I don't vacuum and eventually get the Nitrates under control, will that algea dissappear?
jaiden, I have aragonite for substrate. Currently feeding every other day just as much as fish will eat in a couple of minutes. The Tang gets seaweed, Damsels get flakes. I hand feed the anemone's frozen shrimp.
Hope someone can help. I'm as confused as all get out. I have read here and other articles and talked to people at other sites about controlling nitrate levels. Everyone says the same thing. Partial water changes and vacuum the substrate. My tank is about 2 months old but I cannot seem to get...
I have 2 of these. It's pretty cool watching them eat shrimp. A few nights ago, however, one of them lost all but 3 of it's tentacles. Anyone ever have that happen? I suspect a hermit crab and have since isolated him. They've been living together happily (I thought) for a a couple of months now.
I just bought a RO/DI system off e-bay and installed it a couple of days ago. I hooked it to the cold water line under the kitchen sink. That way I can use it for both drinking water and the aquarium. My unit came with everything I needed to connect it and detailed instructions.

I've been trying to get by using tap water but enough is enough. I can't seem to bring the nitrate level down. I just ordered a RO/DI unit. After a few water changes using good water, can I expect the nitrate level to come down?
Thanks
I am setting up a 135 Gallon FOWLR tank. I currently have two Fluval 404's going but intend to use LR as bio filter. Do I still need power heads or any other type of aerating equipment?
Thanks for any comments.
