Jack Dempsey seems depressed since tank mate died

I'm not particularly fond of tetras either, and I was wrong about the size of my jd's. They were closer to 3" when I moved the African Cichlids, and my lone female is now 4"+.

Jack Dempsey seems depressed since tank mate died

I originally had just one 55g tank and wanted African cichlids, but eventually I ended up with two JDs and one 6" pink convict. I've had the Dempseys since they were just over an inch. I set up another 55g for my African cichlids a few months ago and my two female Dempseys about 4"+ each and the...

    Identification help with mating pair

You're right about that snout! She's comparable to a fuelleborni.

    Identification help with mating pair

You're right. But her face is more blunt (I Guess I could say) with the striping of a Zebra or Kenyi. I guess it helps to see her in all facets of light and life. But, it's entirely possible that she herself is in fact a cross breed that the LFS got from their dealer.

    Identification help with mating pair

She's about 2 3/4". It's the lighting, she's got quite a bit of orange coloring. She darts around soo much. let me see if I can get a better picture.

    Identification help with mating pair

When I look through photos of Maylandia Greshakei, there are quite a few photos of females that look just like this one. But, she's also comparable to an Cobalt blue, except for the Orange tinge on the dorsal. Idk, that's where you guys come in ;-) I appreciate any and all ideas.

    Identification help with mating pair

I have what I think are a male Albino Red Top Ice Blue Zebra and a female Ice Blue Red Top Zebra (Maylandia Greshakei). The two have already mated (much to my surprise, I thought she may have been a he :o) and I now have about 14 3week old fry. I wanted to make sure that they are in fact, the...

Could they be a mating pair?

Thank's you guys. I did do a little research after posting this and they are definitely still too young. I love my new aquarium and I've been known to be a little obsessive when I get started with something lol. So of course after getting my 55 gal set up I already want more and bigger. I'll...

Could they be a mating pair?

Hi there. I got a couple of baby Jack Dempseys from a friend in late April and in the couple months since I've had them they've grown at least an inch. My question is that at 2" long, and only 4 months old, is it possible they could be a pair, or are they still just schooling? The only...

By the time I saw the symptoms, it was too late!

Thanks guys. This is all definitely a lot to consider. I appreciate all the info. J, I had some tiger barbs. I haven't even begun to count all the different sub-species, I literally only know about two kinds of barbs lol.

By the time I saw the symptoms, it was too late!

Thank you m :-D. The 55 gallon it is! I sort of live out in the boonies so online shopping for fish tanks has been a little bit of an uphill battle for me so going into a store and talking with a real person will be helpful. I've been having trouble finding out the different variations of sizes...

By the time I saw the symptoms, it was too late!

Thank's J. I realized after my reply that going through two tank changes wouldn't be the brightest way lol. I don't know why I was stuck on that idea, but sometimes it takes a minute to notice the lightbulb going off. I've already started my browsing for a larger tank, and may have to get it...

By the time I saw the symptoms, it was too late!

Thanks for your replay. It's been a whe since I've kept any fish and I suppose I'm not up to date on the latest fish keeping practices, that's why I joined this forum. I appreciate your help very much, but it would be a lot easier to swallow without the condescending undertone. That said. I...

By the time I saw the symptoms, it was too late!

My husband and I decided to start a new fish tank maybe two months ago. It's just a 10 gallon starter tank and we plan on working our way up to a 50 gallon over time. We got two African Cichlids ( blue and yellow), a red tailed shark, and a plecostimus all at once to start, and all within an...
