How to cool a tank down?

I do this with my tanks during the summer, I place the fan at one corner of the aquarium so the air is blown across the front glass, it keeps the aquarium a constant 80.2 to 80.4. Before I started it was 83.1 and I tried the ice method it would work but I had to keep adding more ice and...

    Bad news for Tanked...

that's shocking a shark eating other fish who would ever think that would have happened..... I worry about buying a $40 discus, I can't imagine spending $4k on a fish. Just googled Fish Tank Kings, didn't even know about that show, got it set to record. Thanks for the info.

    Petsmart plants

I thought the plants PetSmart and PetCo have in those tubes are not aquarium plants they are terrarium plants and will die and screw up your aquarium if kept under water.

Just looked at the $1 per gallon tanks

yea but that warranty is limited if the tank is not on one of their stands voided, there are other stipulations also (I looked at it a little). Not to mention it's not going to cover the water damage to your house, nor the loss of fish. Not worth the gamble.

Just looked at the $1 per gallon tanks

Went down to Petco and looked at the tanks, I was interested in the 55Gal. But I looked at it and the glass looks like it's about 1/4" thick, I don't know if I would trust it. My 65Gal I currently have the glass is 3/8" thick. That's a 1/8" difference for 10Gal. Think I'll save my money...

    I want!!

Looking at that I would make it so the top can come off somehow otherwise it would be really hard to keep it looking good. Make the sink, and walls stay in place, and just have the top plate/cover lift off.

    Cannister Filter

I know everyone here recommends eheim but I have one of them and four cascade's I've had to replace the impeller on the eheim twice and the cascades kept running. The eheim seems to be a good quality filter but since I've had the problem I had I don't think I would buy another one. But again...

    Nitrite levels off the chart!!!!!!!!

This might be a stupid question, but if the water change killed the fish I gotta ask. Are you treating your new water with Prime or something like that?

    nitrate filter question

Thanks, I kinda figured that anyway, I was just thinking if it worked it might be handy for vacation time if i want to take more than a week off. I have auto feeders so feeding over an extended time is not a problem, but the weekly water change wouldn't happen, and I was wondering if the...

    Heat wave help

Don't see how that is possible... Lets see.... I set my fan once which has been on throughout this heat wave, my aquariums have been steady at 80.2-3 degrees. I do nothing else don't have to leave the top open cause I have some bottle floating around in my aquarium, I don't have to worry about...

    Heat wave help

having the same issue here with the heat, my QT 10Gal is ok but my two larger tanks 65gal,and 55gal heat up, I found that if I take my pedestal fans and have it close to the front glass and blow across the length of the front glass it takes the temp down about 2 to 3 degrees. its enough that I...

    nitrate filter question

Is anyone using a NitrAte filter, or something like De-NitrAte in their canister for their fresh water aquariums? If so is it worth it? Do you do less water changes? Do the filters or the filter media really help? Just was wondering I know Aquaripure is a advertiser/sponsor for the forum but...

    adding Bacteria.

like kill your fish. But adding bacteria wont take out chorine chloramine .... still the bacteria isn't in the water, which is what this guy was telling the customer. Its in the substrate, the filter media, etc etc. so you don't loose it with a water change....
