Pigeon spikes as predator deterrent
I forgot to mention that I put them in the water at night and took them out in the morning. The rubber strips were rolls of rubber baseboard. I put screws through the bottom of the base and into the spikes.
I installed my UV filter between the pump and the biofilter and had no problems at all. Crystal clear water, healthy fish, healthy nematodes. Everyone was happy. They must have been; they spawned like crazy!
To clear the water: I used a Skysail! I started out with patio umbrellas, and graduated to bigger things when they seemed effective. Plants helped too. But the real cure was the UV sterilizer. Once that was installed, the water was crystal clear. For the predators: I installed pigeon spikes...
Hi pond people. I have a new (two months) little pond (~150 gallons) with seven 4-6" goldies. There are a couple of water hyacinth and a few other plants, all doing well. The fish are fat and happy, active, eating well, and it looks like they're starting to spawn. The water is about 65 degrees...
