Converting my freshwater into a saltewater (FOWLER?)

Well, I picked up a 20G high Aqueon (All Glass) tank from Petco today (they have a 1 dollar/g sale going on so worked out to half price. Didn't fit. I suppose while I had the cabinet emptied I should have tried the 10G that I have on hand as a QT, but I assume it'll fit just fine, so that's...

Converting my freshwater into a saltewater (FOWLER?)

I'm still doing lots of thinking about this. I've looked at that idea of of an overflow and I'm on the fence about it. On the one hand, it means no drilling, OTOH, if it stops working or the return pump fails, I understand you can run into problems with the tank or the sump overflowing and...

Converting my freshwater into a saltewater (FOWLER?)

That's the plan anyways. The back story is that the good LFS in my area closed and a while back I learned that the "expensive" fish from the good place lasted years and the cheap fish from PetCo died in a few months. The LFS place that I was going to is really the only place to go to that had...

Do you turn your heater off during water changes?

Just to update this, I got the new heater from Aqueon today. I plugged the two heaters and two filters into their own power strip and left the light on another (all on a GFI). Now I can shut everything off at once during water changes). The next thing to figure out is why I have so many...

Do you turn your heater off during water changes?

Like I said in my OP, my concern is that I won't remember to plug it back in. My filters have been part of my routine since day 1 and since one of them requires priming, it's hard to forget to do that. The heaters just quietly sit there and do their job. I suppose something else I could do...

Do you turn your heater off during water changes?

And just FTR, I read that huge thread (on another board) about the exploding Stealth Pro's when I was trying to figure out what happened to mine.

Do you turn your heater off during water changes?

I, personally, never have. I have two Aqueon Pro's and the instructions specifically say that they automatically shut off if they sense that the water level has fallen, how they do that, I don't know. Long story short, I just had one of them crack after two years of reliable service and I'm...

    Quick QT question

I keep meaning to update this, I didn't realize it had been 4 months. So a few months ago (probably right when I made that last post), I got my QT tank up and running, got some barbs, some glofish, and a albino pleco. The albino pleco promptly died. I brought it back to Petco and by then they...

    Quick QT question

Okay, so now it's time to figure out what to restock it with. Looking at my tank, I've got: 1 Pearl Gourami 3 Glofish (2 Red, 1 yellow) 4 Tiger Barbs Wow, I am down quite a bit Playing with AqAdvisors and Live Aquaria to see pictures and quick descriptions* for a few minutes...I'd like to get...

    Quick QT question

Yesterday morning I found my favorite fish dead, my BN Pleco. I'm not sure what happened, my levels were perfect, I do a weekly 30-50% water change. I kind of wonder if it wasn't finding enough food. The tank was immaculate and over the past few months it was coming out more and more during...

How loud/quiet is the AC 110?

Just to update this, I returned the 110 and picked up a 70. While it's not silent like my canister, I can hardly hear it. It's a ton quieter then the Aqueon. I am leaving the lid off, it didn't rattle (though I'm sure it would from time to time) but it seemed to echo a bit. The whole tank is...

How loud/quiet is the AC 110?

I suppose I could try it out. The Aqueon is LOUD. Like, louder then it should be. I suppose the worst that can happen is that it'll be as loud as the Aqueuon and I can replace it in a few months with a canister if I'm not happy.

How loud/quiet is the AC 110?

How big is your AC? The one I got is the 110. Right now I'm planning to use it to replace a noisy Aquaclear 55/75, but since it's a bigger I'm wondering if it's going to end up being just as loud anyways.

How loud/quiet is the AC 110?

That's what I was thinking, my canister is quiet enough that when my Aqueon is off, I'm not even sure the canister is running. OTOH, I do like a second form of filtration. The HOB is more exposed to oxygen (not sure if that's good or bad) and causes more surface agitation. Also, HOBs are just...
