    well from what i have been reading and told by others, i to have a 55 gall tank and made it planted. you want atleasst 1 watt per gallon. i had to go to petsmart and purchase a t5 ho light ballast and bulbs. needless to say in a few days i see a difference in my plants and also in my tank...

    new tank and its still cloudy! need help :(

    from what i have learned in my short time in tanks, i had a amonia spike so i added ammo lock, it clouded my tank like a champ took 2 weeks to fully clear up. it is the addative (chemicals) that made it cloudy. after that i did pwc daily and that cleared it right up and my ammonia levels came...

    picked up new bulbs

    its ok i have more then enough lighting now as i picked up a new t5 ballast for 50 bucks and the 2 bulbs for 30 bucks.... wowsers and all brand new... petsmart is marking down the GLO line by hagen as they are coming with a new package design and are just unloading all the old packaged items...

    new T5 light for my first plante tank

    talking to a few members on here about lighting for a planted tank.... i happened to go into pet smart and long behold they are having a clearence sale on all lights and bulbs. i picked up a NEW T5 fixture with bulbs for 75 cdn dollars. wowsers... the ballast alone had a tag on it for 189.99...

    Cannot keep 40g oscar tank clear..

    *update* planted build going smoothly i think

    well as for now i have the 55 gallon coming with heater, thermo, and filter all the stuff you listed but the sand. also i think i would go all out and do a reef tank if i do go the salty route. do i need a diff style of filter for a salty tank???
