My cichlids really enjoy rearranging the gravel in my tank. Sand is sometimes a pain when it comes to filtration if the fish are digging it up. I don't think it would be a huge problem if you tried sand though.
I have a BP cichlid and a convict cichlid both about 3in long in a heavily planted 29g tank. The convict has grown to the point that he no longer lets the BP chase him around. I want to go with a divider so they can live in peace. I'm not concerned with the look. Would clear or mesh be better? I...
The brown algae spreads very quickly. It really likes porous things. The peroxide should kill it. I suspect the high pH is what's allowing it to spread so quickly. Water changes should help. Maybe even try changing out some but not all, of your filter media. To the best of my knowledge, it isn't...
Do you think my other fish would be safe for a few days if I can't separate right now? I thought I had another tank but I don't and my BP is in the hospital tank for a few more days. I really don't want to add the medicine to my main tank.
He probably picked the little house as his territory. If you put in something bigger where it is, he should be fine with it. I had to do the same with my one of my cichlids.
If you're talking about the brown/red spots, it looks like algae to me. I have trouble with that type from time to time because I have really hard water. I would remove it and scrub the algae off as much as you can and do a water change. Do you know your nitrate levels? The brown algae seems to...
I've only had the fish a few days and I noticed it there when I put the fish in the tank. I figured it was a pebble from the trauma of being moved from store to home. I thought it would have fallen out by now if it was. Should I try to remove it carefully? Should I separate it from the other fish?
1~What type of fish is afflicted? Serpae tetra. There's a large, white, round object in the gill. It almost looks like one of the rocks from the tank. I just got the tetras earlier this week. I didn't notice it at the LFS.
2~What are your tank parameters (ammonia, nitrites, nitrates, temp...
I really like the idea of having an angel. Don't they need slightly acidic water though? I could probably get a hold of RO distilled water for them but I worry about the mineral content.
I've thought about keeping a few of the dwarf mbunas but I'm sure 29g wouldn't be enough for them to...
Hello Everyone, :fish2:
I ended up losing the lone fish I had in a 15g tank. I've decided to upgrade to a 20g or possibly a 30g depending on the length and width of the tank. I have about 35in length and 15in width to work with. I've never kept multiple fish.
The pH of my city water...
He eats just fine so hopefully it isn't hexamita. The little poos I see when I vacuum the gravel look normal to me. Protozoans are nasty things though. API didn't have any recommendation as to repeated doses but I will try the longer treatment. I don't understand why they recommend such a small...
The good news is, my little dude is still hanging on. He seems a little less lethargic. The funny part is he felt good enough to try and nibble me as I cleaned the tank. Since it's day one of parasite meds, I haven't seen any change yet.
I do have a friend with some cichlids who might be able...
