I am having these spots appear on my sand, and I was wondering what they might be, I haven't tried to vacuum or anything to see if that would help. I figure that would only cover it up or spread it around. This is a white aquarium sand, not PFS. Any ideas?

I am brand new to the hobby and just got a Rena Filstar Xp2 and I must say for a first try at a canister filter I have been impressed. Easy to set up when I didn't know much about them. Running great and easy to clean.

I have just started a 29G freshwater tank with a sand substrate, currently cycling the tank. I was just curious how do I clean the sand, and do water changes, does the normal siphon vac work?

Banjo Catfish don't move very much, and I said 4-6. I have read a little more and think 2-3 may be just as good.

How well do plants do in sand, I haven't seen any information on that. I want to put some Banjo Catfish in my tank and would like to provide them with sand to hide in. I was also thinking of trying to do live plants.
