Just finished up the stand this morning and I am happy with the way it turned out.
I would have had it finished last weekend but I had to find some door pulls that fit the theme.
I may add a light in the cabinet area, haven't decided yet. I'm going to check some out today and see if I can find...
It seems one of my mollies was preggers. After finishing dinner last night my daughter went to feed the fishes and immediately started yelling, "Dad, Dad" Thinking something was wrong I ran into the living room. As I get there she yells out, "We've got babies" Sure enough we had two fry...
Thanks for checking. I've checked with some of the LFS around here and none of them are sure either. I guess I'll have to try a repair idea I have and see how it turns out. Oh, and thanks for bringing up the age thing, now I feel like an antique.:D
I guess living in the desert does have some benefits. Getting ready for heat just comes natural. Crank the ac, fridge full of beer and prepare for the ungodly power bills for the next few month.
With vacation over it was time to get back into the stand. I got up early this morning to beats the heat and got the sanding finished and the dings and cracks filled and sanded. Had some time left so I got the first of the staining done.
The stand is upside-down in the pic so what you're...
White vinegar is the way to go. Use it straight from the bottle, let it soak for a bit and srub off. I have done some with a new scotch brite pad, the real stubborn stuff may need to be scrapped off with a razor blade. Just use some caution so you don't scratch up the tank.
The repair is not going to be under the tank. I'll be installing the plastic stock to the underside of the orginal crossbar. The underside of the original crossbar is channeled so the stock will fit perfectly and will be stronger than the thin plastic of the original crossbar.
Since the crossbar is open on the underside I plan on using some 3/8" square plastic stock and running a piece across the entire length and epoxying it in place. It should be stronger then the original crossbar. After the repair is done and completely dry I plan on setting it up on the stand...
It will be getting stained and varnished for sure. Not sure what color yet, it depends what room it goes into. As for vacation, fun it will be. Going to be in Pismo Beach for 10 days of relaxation. Between my job and side business I need it.
Since me 29gal. tank is now up and running beautifully I figured it was time to start looking for something bigger, yeah I know I'm probably coming down with MTS. I've been combing craigslist for the past few weeks and after missing out on a couple of good deals I finally scored. I picked up a...
Since my 29gal. is all up and running I've been wanting a larger tank, I know I'm probably coming down with MTS. So for the past few weeks I've been combing Craigslist looking for a good deal. There's been a few and mostly because of working I've always missed out. Well yesterday I score a great...
In theory the lava from your LFS should be fine. It wouldn't hurt it to scrub and bake in the sun you never know who has handled it and what they may have had on thier hands. I always like err on the side of caution. As for boiling or baking lava rock in the oven or something like that DO NOT...
