is there a safe paint for coral out there?????

Wouldn't the paint seal up all the crevices and holes in the rock, limiting the benefit of it becoming live rock?

    aiptasia?

If you were in Athens Georgia I'd say sure. I have 2 of them. One just showed up one day as little tiny guy. they both like to ride my snails around the tank. Do you really have that many aiptasias? You could try just the calcium, I guess the worst thing that could happen is you make more of...

    aiptasia?

The last one I removed was well established (over a year) I injected it with calcium supplement and then my urchin moved over him and munched out for 24 hours. Not a piece left to multiply

    Hey, that's neat!

I have one of these called a debelius reef lobster. Beautiful but always hiding. How big is yours and have you started losing animals? I have lost (as in can not find) a goby and a maroon starfish. just disappeared. This morning I found my brittle star with 2 legs that looked like they had...

garf bullet proof reef set ?

If you have a couple of hours to read a good thread that takes the plenum and DSB and adds a twist go to http://reefcentral.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=289910&perpage=25&pagenumber=1 You may have to register first. The title is DSB Heresy. I will be using this method on my 150 gal...

    Plenum Research

I agree, just passing on one of the arguments. I personally don't like the looks of gravel. I have been reading about a modified plenum system that daily removes the foul water in the plenum area. So far from what I have read it sounds like a very good idea. However I would still put it in...

    Plenum Research

The one benefit to a plenum system that was not mentioned is the suggested lack of need for kalwasser. The idea is that the ph under the gravel is significantly lower causing the gravel to decompose (not the correct term) and add calcium to the system. I'm still trying to decide myself.

    Mantis or Pistol

I am not vouching for this info, just passing it along. check out http://www.blueboard.com/mantis/pest/tell.htm "A lot of people seem to be confused about this. Pistol shrimps, which are "generally" viewed as non-harmful to most inhabitants of the tank, can and do make these clicking noises...

    Salt Creep??

Good idea! Since I have no experience with this just yet, tell me what you think. I thought I could just have the return lines end under the water level of the tank in the basement. Is that what you had before and had the bubble problem? my 150 tank has only 2 overflows with a 1200 GPH max...

Foot print for good Nitrate removal?

I'm building out the basement for my brother and his wife. To not go through his living room I will have to go outside around the house to get to the 300 gal tank. That's why I would prefer to not have to feed the 300 gal tank. However, you do have a point about them getting food from the...

Foot print for good Nitrate removal?

deniball go inside of some nitrate reducers. here's one http://www.petsolutions.com/cgi-bin/cgiitmls?m=ThisP&p=1027.300000&l=2 If I put the DSB in the 300 gal tank then I'll need to put some sand sifters in there right? Then will I need to feed them anything additional, hate to have them...

    Salt Creep??

Thanks for the reply. I'm setting up a new tank now. Does the moisture damage or warp your canopy? How about salt creep all up in your light fixtures and controls? not a problem or just the lesser of the evils? Do you have a ton of evaporization? I don't think I'll have a problem with gas...
