Water dogs in a ten gallon setup need advice help

If the water is too deep, or it can't get out of the dish, it WILL drown. Most salamanders only return to water to breed, the rest of their time is spent away from standing water.

Water dogs in a ten gallon setup need advice help

Once Tigers morph, they're terrible swimmers and need a shallow dish just deep enough to lay in. Most won't even use them, relying on damp substrate to stay properly hydrated. Recommended for an adult salamander in a 10 gal is a hide, 3-4" of damp (but not soupy) coconut fiber substrate with a...

Water dogs in a ten gallon setup need advice help

It's very important to find out if they're actually Water Dogs, which are Tiger Salamanders or Axolotls. For the larval (aquatic) stage of the Tigers, the care is the same as an axolotl. Once they morph, you will need a terrestrial (land) set up. I've included an axolotl caresheet below to help...

    Ornament warning!

I'm the op of this thread I would like to share that our store has pulled their remaining stock of the skulls!

    Ornament warning!

Nobody mentioned malice or fraud. Just blissful ignorance on their part. They maybe tried a cheaper seal, or thought less could still be effective. It doesn't change that a lot of Penn plax ornaments ate toxic though

    Ornament warning!

Let me know what happens with yours, please, I want to see if I'm just unlucky, or if there's a real issue. Ours only took about an hour, hour and a half to start smelling when I took it out of water. I'd give it a day or two.

    Ornament warning!

just the other day when I came home from the store, I went to change my giant betta's tank, and realized that his ornament smelled like paint too! I've posted pictures of them. Someone on another forum had the castle like one for a long time and didn't have my trouble with it, so I'm going to...

Dumbest Aquarium advice you've ever been given?

@Andy, the rare exception is not the norm. They may take refuge in a hoof print as they sometimes will leave dirty puddles, and try to cross ground to look for more water. A hoof print wouldn't contain enough food to sustain them through the dry season. (Especially for 2, as some of the marketed...

    Ornament warning!

In all of my years keeping tanks, I was told yo rinse new decor (including gravel) in warm to hot water. I was also told to sterilize in hot water, to avoid bleach. But I have another decor that I soaked in cold water, that smells like wet latex paint.

Anyone know what's up with this betta?

I'm glad to hear that she's feeling a lot better! We lost a girl to a nasty tumor a few months ago, it was so hard watching her want to fight and act like nothing was wrong when she could barely swim!

Anyone know what's up with this betta?

Keep an eye on it, even though you've drained it, it could potentially come back. Someone on my betta forum had the same issue, they lanced it, and it was back within two days.

Dumbest Aquarium advice you've ever been given?

She's going to be tickled pink when that pleco beastie starts attacking her moors. I had one almost lose an eye from the misconception that fancy goldfish and plecos are good tankmates...:banghead: Called the local fish store to ask about Blackwater Extract (because I couldn't find almond...
