Day 5, still no ammonia. Is it possible that my plant is using it? I'm just really confused because with feeding them everyday there should be some sort of reading. Plus the water is slightly fogging but apparently the fish waste thats in there isn't producing any ammonia? Any other ideas...

Update: The color of the ammonia test is not 100% yellow anymore (0.0ppm), but is still not green enough for that .25ppm area. So I would say its getting there but slowly. At what reading should I do a water change for the fish?

20 Gallon Tank, and they're zebra danios.

Just started a fish-in cycle with 4 danios yesterday. They've been in a little over 24 hours with no ammonia readings thus far. I have one nubius nana plant in there and my temp. is 78 degrees. When can I expect to see the ammonia rise? 20 gallon tank PH: 7.5 Ammonia: 0 Nitrite: 0 Nitrate: < 5

I have the API master test kit. According to the instructions it says to wait 5 minutes for the test results to appear, but I've noticed that when I leave them out longer than that (30mins) the results change slightly. For example after the first 5 minutes my nitrate result said 5.0ppm but...

Thanks, good to know I'm not the only one. I got my nitrites and ammonia down with spring water but my nitrates are still getting around 10ppm. I guess time and water changes will tell if the last of the danios will survive. What is a "safe" nitrate reading?

Thanks for your response. I've decided to just by some 2 gallon jug(s) of spring water at the grocery store and mix it with the tap, on top of that i'll add prime so i can get those test results down. Using just my tap is poisoning my fish so mixing it with spring water is the only thing I can...
