I have a 20 gallon long planted tank. It's currently stocked with 1 dwarf gourami, 6 platys, 4 bronze corys, and what I just found out to be 1 emerald catfish :facepalm:.

It depends on the helmet, say a Auburn, Alabama, Tennessee, or LSU helmet and fish would get real sick but they might make it, a Georgia helmet would probably lead to all the fish commiting immediate suicide.
I'm no expert but I'm pretty sure a Florida Gator helmet would make the fish thrive...
Once I returned to fish to my friend I starting itching for a replacement so I headed to different fish stores around town. Surprisingly I found the tanks in Petco to be the most clean and filled with happy fish. I hope I don't regret this but I got another dwarf gourami :facepalm:.

Well, it didn't go well. The Goldy got along with everyone until it was feeding time to an hour after (constant attacking of both corys and platys). Well I gave it an honest effort. My friend will have to keep her.
There are plenty of threads about DGs getting sick or even dying. Has anyone had prolonged success with these beautiful fish or is the US aquarium stock all sick?:fish2:
I might try it out. I am definitely planning on getting a larger tank in the coming year so this might work out. Worst case scenario I an always return her to my friend's tank.

I have sand as substrate and have a few plants. I'm looking to give the fish some extra hiding spots.
Do you prefer driftwood or rocks?

I've noticed quite a few of the leaf ends, on the java fern, sprout roots and in some cases new leaves. What's the best course of action if I want to have more java fern in my tank?
