    Moving fish?

Hi all, I moved the fish with no problems and everyone survived the trip. Thanks again!

    Moving fish?

Thank you for the article, it is very helpful. I am planning on moving everything else and getting it all somewhat settled, with the area for the tank clearly demarcated, then move the tank and fish last. I may invest in a few more five-gallon buckets before making this move.

    Moving fish?

Hi all, I'm sure this has been discussed before, but alas, I can't find anything on it. I am moving in about a week. I will be staying in the same city (in fact, only moving about three blocks away). I have a 55 gallon freshwater tank with various community fish (mostly varieties of tetras...

    Persistently cloudy water.

Okay, thanks. I did another 20% change last night and have been keeping the lights off during the day, and things already look significantly better. The Nitrite levels are still high, but are coming down. Thanks again.

    Persistently cloudy water.

woo! you guys are great. Thanks for all the info, I'll let you know how things turn out. One other question: should I be adding anything special to the tank during all this? I just add a bit of stuff for dechlorinating tap water.

    Persistently cloudy water.

Hm. That would make sense with the water not clearing up after covering the tank. The new fish have been in there at least two weeks now, probably three. I checked the water again this morning, and the levels were still extremely high, although I think it may have come down a bit - the...

    Persistently cloudy water.

Hi all, Okay, I got home yesterday and reinspected the tank, and I think now that it is more a greenish haze than white. The white wall behind the tank was throwing me off, so perhaps it is algae? I also checked the water, and this is what I got: Temp: 79 F pH: 7.2 Ammonia: approx. 0.25 ppm...

    Persistently cloudy water.

Hmmm, okay. I didn't realize that would be a problem. How long should I leave the lights on? About a two months, I upgraded from a 30 gallon tank to the 55 gallon one. I gave my existing fish (around 20) three weeks to adjust, with no problems. I then went out and got the new fish, and...

    Persistently cloudy water.

It looks sort of hazy white, but when I change the water, I first put it into a white bucket before dumping it down the drain, and then it looks ever-so-slightly green. A very very very pale green. This is not a planted tank, no. I haven't done the water testing in a while, but I will do so...

    Persistently cloudy water.

Hello all, I have a 55 gallon tank with smaller, communal fish in it. The total number is around 30. It's mostly a mix of tetras, along with a couple of platys, four zebra danios, a flame dwarf gourami, two chinese algae eaters, and two small catfish. The water is always slightly cloudy, I...

    Tank cloudy after water change

Final update: Wrapping the tank in a sheet and letting in no light did it. The tank us now crystal-clear and all the fish are happy and swimming. The Java green took a bit of a hit, but it's bouncing back nicely. The Java moss is fine. Thanks for all your help.

    Tank cloudy after water change

A quick update: I wrapped the tank in a sheet to block out (almost) all light. I checked this morning and things look a lot better. I am going to take it off when I get home from work and see if it's clear; if not, I'll leave it on for a third full day.

    Tank cloudy after water change

HAs anyone ever tried introducing daphnia into a tank to eat the algae? Will they in turn become a problem, or will the fish simply eat them in turn?

    Tank cloudy after water change

Hello, The tank has been set up and stable for about three months. I haven't done any water tests; I shall go and do that and report back in a bit. I'll reduce the light hours also; fortunately, I have the tank on a timer, so I can do that easily. However, I have a couple of live plants -...
