that would probably work better (and quicker, as far as organic filtration is concerned)but the PVC will be at least cheaper. send pics when your finished.

i personally used both. the live rubble (if gotten from a reputable supplier) would be quicker (to help with biological filtration) bu the bio balls will not exude the ammonia like rubble will/might.
the one thing with using Pvc is that it will be pitch black so the rubble algea will most...
what about using a large PVC pipe. you could seal the end and the other end could be threaded. ugly....yes. but it would tolerate the pressure and fulfill your needs with the rubble/bio-balls.

by using the 1x4's on the sides and ends it be more than enough to hold the weight not to mention that it will be a lot lighter than the 4x4 stands i used to make back in the day.

i have a 120 gal aquarium, 100 gal sump, and a 55 gal refugium. the aquarium is lit by mh's. with all this it makes my basement very humid. does anyone else have this problem? what do you guys think i should do to beat this humidity and stop the threat of ruining my live in basement and...
i have a brine shrimp hatchery that only hatches them. any idea on how to keep them alive till they get full grown in 2 weeks?
