I raise my ph from 5.1 to 6.2 by adding a rock in the tank and coral chips in my filter
And they are still here... ( in a period of a week slowly)
I love my 3 panda loaches! but if you have shrimp tank, they will come along and eat their food as well... (which they will sometimes use their tail and swipe shrimps to hand off the food)
they also eat dead snails too which IMHO is a nice thing!

1) Atman CF1200 + 1 J Brand Prefilter (with 2 trays of no name brand bio rings + Seachem Puragen on 3rd Tray)
2) Nisso Undergravel Filter

well.. my atman CF1200 canister (1000L/H flow) is hooked up to the "RFUGF" system
it is just literally I just got a series of rain bars (with the jet stream point up) hooked them up on the bottom of the tank (in zigzag formation to cover the bottom of the tank as much as possible) and buried it...
well I am running a spray bar faceing up to the water covered with a layer of bio rings and sand over on top... but this still have to vaccum substrate...
So you mean removing the bio rings on the bottom would be better? most of my plants are tied on rocks or driftwood... so I think I would be fine for now?
There is one thought tho... instead of using SAND... I am thinking of using pebbles instead.. dont know if this will work as I have plants in the tank as well... maybe I strap them down on a lava rock and cover them up with pebbles first
