new starter needs help with Ph!!!!

Nononan, I remember you mentioned before that you had something that measures both temperature and salinity or pH in one go. Are you using an electronic pH meter? Sometimes it's important to know what you use to measure pH just to make sure what the test tells you is really what the pH is. If...

new starter needs help with Ph!!!!

That's okay :) I think you need to buy a liquid test kit if you don't already have one. pH test strips are not as accurate I think. :)

new starter needs help with Ph!!!!

Hi nono! :) Glad you made it! :) PWC means partial water change. I think what Melosu is trying to say is that you should test your water pH an hour before turning off your lights. A measurement taken that way is more accurate as the water parameters are given time to stabilize during the 'light'...

    Killer fish?

Hi all, I've recently stocked my 22L tank with 2 male guppies and 6 cardinal tetras. I had the tank at 28 degrees C and was in pristine conditions... After the first day, the first cardinal tetra passed away. The scales on one side of his body was completely gone, along with his fins. The...

    Advice on a small 5G (20L) setup

Hi all, I am thinking of stocking up my 5 gallon (20 Litre) small tank. I am attracted to mollies, guppies and tetras. I was wondering what advice you guys might have regarding what the stocking limits are for such a small set up? Cheers, Alex.

    An Epic War With ICH(ICK)

What are you water parameters? If possible, I would recommend gravel vacuuming a bit everytime you do a water change since Ich eggs tend to settle within the gravel. Be sure to disinfect everything you use to avoid spreading those little buggers...

    Swim Bladder disease for fantail

Hi all, Just wanted to let you all know that unfortunately Chubby didn't make it... He struggled for a bit before passing. His stomach and entire underside felt mushy, I believe I was too late in starting treatment. Thanks for all your advice and help, it seems that I am very good at killing...

    Swim Bladder disease for fantail

Thanks again Jsoong! I've bookmarked that page... From the looks of it, Chubby seems to have a swollen liver according to the anatomy diagram on that site. This points more towards internal bacterial infection since parasitic would not be systemic. I'm going to try and up the temperature, and...

    Swim Bladder disease for fantail

Today is Chubby's 4th day on full dose Kanamycin. He is still upside down, and still no appetite. He poops white stringy poops every now and then... I can tell he has either lost a lot of weight, or his swelling has gone down. However, I am starting to see very slight protrusion in his scales...

    Swim Bladder disease for fantail

Just a quick update: Chubby has moved from pooping white stringy poop, to solid white poop. Today is his second day on full Kanamycin treatment and the lump on his left side 'seems' to have improved. However, he is still upside down and has no appetite... Does this sound promising?

    Swim Bladder disease for fantail

Great, I've been testing the water daily and doing water pwc's whenever I see an increase in ammonia and nitrite levels. I'm also feeding my little buddy (his name is now Chubby/Chubster) peas, and added 1 tbsp per 5 gallon of epsom salt into the tank to help him poop. He's continuously pooping...

White Puffball on Betta's gill?? Pictures and Video Included

You are simply being a great fish keeper, and there's nothing wrong with that :) The white spots won't go away so quickly, especially if the treatment has just started not long ago. From the sound of it, it's definitely some form of fungus... A few months ago, some of my fishes were afflicted...

    Swim Bladder disease for fantail

I was wondering... How long would it usually take for Kanamycin to work? My little buddy is upside down again, but he's visibly more aware and active. I think something is helping, but just not sure what. I've kept the peas diet going, and I gravel vacuum everyday to remove any uneaten peas...

How often do fishes jump out of the water...?

Yes indeed it was a straight-tailed goldfish. He was a common :( I guess that must've been true... he's always had a fascination with the surface of the water, somehow :S Thanks for all your condolences :) Much appreciated. I will definitely buy a solid cover for all my fish tanks from now on!
