    sw setup maintenance costs

ok $10-$15 isn't too bad. I thought it was going to be worse. I just found a cost calculator on the site, so I'll have to check it out. Thanks again, everyone!

I just completed an order using this code: 1687/2005. Don't know if it will work for anyone else or not. HTH, though.

    sw setup maintenance costs

I just got a 75 gal that was previously sw. I'd like to use the fact that it still has sand in it as an excuse to venture into the world of sw. I'm not going to get it set up for a while b/c I need to save up for all the equipment (it sucks being a broke college student), but what I'm worried...

    Stripping paint off tank

Great. I will try razor blades, then. That was my initial idea, but was worried about scratches. Wow, I think I'll be done in about a week. lol Wish me luck! And thanks again. :)

    Stripping paint off tank

So I just bought a 75 gal and the previous owner painted the back and one of the sides with blue paint. I'd like to strip it off and was hoping someone might have some advice so that I don't end up poisoning the fish that will eventually go in the tank. TIA!

    No Algae - Prob?

My 40 gal has been cycled for nearly 4 months now. I have 6 rosy barbs (1.5"), 5 zebra danios (1.5"), and two neon tetras (1"). (Used to have more fish but they got eaten.) Anyway, I have some java moss growing in there and that's all. The only light I have on it is from a 10 gal hood but the...

    walmart fish and petsmart

I was really thrilled and surprised when I went to one of my local WalMarts the other day. They had one tank filled with fish that had ich and a sign that read,"Not for sale. Under observation." I was proud.

    keeping feeder fish as pets!

I know what everyone says about goldfish. My guys are still small, only about 2". And I have massive filtration on that tank (over 15x turnover per hour). I want to get them some tankmates b/c they seem so nervous all the time. I figure some "lookout" fish might make them feel more comfortable.

    shrimp questions

I put some in an unheated tank with goldfish. They did fine until the goldies uprooted their hiding place and had them for dinner. Just provide them with planty of cover and they should do well almost anywhere

    keeping feeder fish as pets!

I got 3 feeder goldfish at a carnival (bow down to my ping pong ball tossing skills). 1 died after a month but the other two are now happily living in a 10-gal awaiting future companions. Suggestions anyone?

    Advice needed

Actually, kmlong. I had the same thing with the nitrites in the tank that I'm cycling now. I had a couple pieces of driftwood in there for 3 days b4 adding 6 neon tetras, 6 rosy barbs, and 6 zebra danios. The first and second days, I only tested for ammonia (0). The third day I tested for...

    Advice needed

I've heard that adding salt to the water helps keep the fish from being poisoned by the nitrite, but I'm not sure what amount to add. Maybe someone else can post that??

Shipping tank supplies across the country

Actually, the bacteria on the rocks and filter media is aerobic so it really wouldn't be able to last through a trip packed up like that. I don't know what you would be able to do to preserve the bacteria, but I know there are some products out there that are supposed to be able to jump-start...

    Are these aquarium safe?

I don't know about the clay pots being safe or not, but if you want a natural looking cave you could use some pvc pipe covered in gravel. There is a really cool looking one in the DIY forum. Here's the link: http://www.aquariumadvice.com/viewtopic.php?t=20028&highlight= HTH :)

    Takin out the trash

Same thing happens to me when I gravel vac and do water changes. I guess all that stuff is trapped in the plants, gravel, etc. and we just don't notice it when we're cleaning. Then when we pour the fresh water in, the force of the current knocks it all loose. So the water looks dirty, but I'm...
