I had the two heater setup in my tank... and then I got an in-line heater with my canister. How do people handle those? Do you then have another heater hanging on the back? I got the in line to avoid that. I hate having all the things hanging inside the tank.
One more question about rainbows. They are a schooling fish - but will they school with other species of rainbow? Like if I got 4 of them... 2 of 2 different species... would that work? Or should I stick to all one species of rainbow?
After reading a bit about rainbows, I feel the problem I've had with them is that I haven't really seen any full grown full color ones. I've seen them a lot in pet stores, and have never seen any that are really "striking" to me. Sounds like the Congo Tetra. They always look kind of boring in...
The Denisons - how many would i need to get? Is 3 enough for them to be happy? That's still a 75 dollar investment... and since I've never kept that fish before it makes me a bit nervous.
Yeah. I'm worried about the dwarfs a bit too. I've got a lot of "caves" and things built in among the plants, and they seem to be mainly concerned with the territories they've created down there. But I agree- that is a concern. I think I just get overwhelmed when I go to look at fish. The fish...
I've got a 55 gallon aquarium with a bunch of bottom dwellers (a few yoyo loaches, a bushynose pleco and four dwarf cichlids (kribensis x2 and apistogramma agasizzi x2). The aquarium is planted with eco-complete substrate. This tank has been set up for a few years - so it's cycled and...
I agree. Testing water parameters is essential. It helps you know when/how much of a water change you need. I don't think your fish are doomed. You can get through it, it's just going to take quite a bit of work...
There are a few things you can try that will definitely increase your odds of getting your fish through. Having a 40 gallon and only 6 fish will definitely help....
1. Go to the pet store and get some fast growing live plants. They will help use up the ammonia in the water and add bacteria from...
It has definitely been an interesting experience with the two of them. I'd had fry from other fish before, but these have been by far the coolest. I saw the dad out foraging in the tank last night, and today he's back in with the babies... it can't be by accident. He's the only fish that seems...
Well... if you really want power... and the outside hose faucet is readily available.... for my 55 gallon I hook my python up to the outside hose faucet to empty it. You can vary the sucking power by how high you turn the water on - and you can drain the 55 gallon in minutes if you turn it on...
I'm not sure if anyone cares, but I'll keep sharing anyway. :) It looks like the dad comes and goes several times a day.... I'll go in and he'll be gone then come back later and he's back... I had some trouble with the 10 gallon, so I'm scared to put the babies in it now. I bought some live...
The water temperature should be close - but I really wouldn't worry about it being exact. I don't think one or two degrees is going to be that big of a deal. If you're really worried though, you can get a large plastic bucket to "hold" the water in for a few hours before you change the water in...
So... there was another set of babies. I found them 2 nights ago. i have them in the floating breeder right now. So far, I've counted 15 of them. The two adults have been busy :) Anyway, again the father climbed into the breeder! I got a picture of him in there this time. I decided to leave him...
I've got about 6 that will be available in a few weeks. They were an unexpected surprise. They're probably cheaper to get local if I have to ship them, so I'm hoping someone in the area would like a couple or a few. The mom is an albino longfin and the dad is a regular bushynose. They're about...
