When you say you clean the filters, you mean you just throw away the cartridges right? I'm not exactly familiar with cannister but like with my Emperor 400, I just change the filter cartridges about once every 6 weeks but don't touch the biowheels. Or when you said you clean them every 4 weeks...
Gotcha, makes good sense. Basically buying another filter would help with not having to do as many water changes and improve current in the water but it's not something that if I don't buy, my fish won't survive. I guess i can see both sides of that, it wouldn't hurt to have but it's not...
Ok so I have a 75 gallon tank that I've had up and running for about a month with African Cichlids. I have an Emperor 400 and a BioWheel Penguin 200 filter that go over the back of the tank. Common sense tells me that's plenty of filtration but to me, the water looks ever so slightly cloudy...
Sounds good, mine are only about an inch long right now so I don't think they will be a threat if I get a pleco that's at least a couple inches in length

First off, sorry if this is a noob or rookie question, even though I am fairly new to this. I have a 75 gallon FW tank that I've had set up for about 3 weeks now. I have 6 African Cichlids and a Pictus catfish and I noticed I'm starting to get a good bit of Algae on my rocks. Would a...
Also, great advice about getting my own test kit, much more convenient than taking samples up to the fish store 3 times a week. I think after I get some Holey rock in place maybe the pH will be where it needs to be. As of Sunday, everything looked great except for the pH which was a 7.6 so maybe...
My apologies, I did mean the pH was too low, sorry for the confusion. Yes I'm trying to slightly raise it, and I personally thought water changes might be preventing this. Maybe I should do only 25% changes until the tank cycles?? I will definitely look into the bacteria in a bottle if my water...
That's correct, I'm going with African Cichlids. The man I talked to says that the reason my pH level is too high is because I've been removing too much water when I change but I imagine it's because the tank hasn't even cycled for a week so it's still stabilizing. One more water change might...
Ok so I took a bag of water up to the store to get it tested, all the numbers looked good except the pH is still low, registered as a 7.4. They acted like I could go ahead and add some fish but I really would like to get that number higher first. I tried to buy some limestone but apparently they...
I just checked out that Live Fish Direct website, and I'll tell you how oblivious I am, I didn't even know you could have fish shipped directly to your door overnight lmao. My head is spinning from all the different variety of African Cichlids, I've only seen a few different type at local fish...
That's very useful, thank you!! I'll read up on all them, only problem is I'm not sure there's a store around here that stocks any of those, we only have like 1 or 2 aquatic stores around here (other than Petco).I've always heard mixed comments about buying from Petco, but when I've been in...
