I blame my 5 year old....

That would be pretty cool, at least we would have one expert in the family that way!

    New to forum

Welcome to AA. I had a similar problem with cleaning at first. Then I found that I was trying to clean too much of the bottom at once. I find that smaller more frequent water changes work best for me. I was also dragging my vacuum through the gravel. This always stirred up a lot of sediment that...

I blame my 5 year old....

Same thing happened here. Got a tank because the 2 year old would not leave the fish isle at the pet store. However I got bitten by the bug and now I watch the fish more then TV! However my daughter is still fascinated by the fish, and is learning to identify the larger fish. The other day she...

    55 gallon Journal

Heyas! The tank is looking great! Somehow I can just hear my Mom saying the same thing (Save your money and just test your water at the store). I understand that everyone has a different system for doing things but I actually check my water everyday and keep a log. That would be a lot of trips...

    Bristle nose plec

Heyas Sieski. I usually only feed mine a half tab a day. I check about 2 hours after I feed him and if it is still there I cut back on the size. Mine did not go for tabs at first he liked the algae he found in the tank better, but as he exausted that supply he started eating the tabs a bit more.

    water quality charting program

I say go for it. I track everything right now with a spreadsheet too. I was thinking about writing up a little GUI with autoit myself.

    pH Won't go Down!

I agree that 7.8 is not a bad number. Fish will aclimate to different PH ranges usually (imo). I found a nice article that explains PH here. Aquarium pH - The First Tank Guide - What About Adjusting the pH in My Aquarium? It calmed me down alot, our tap water is 8.0 to 8.2. The driftwood in my...

    Heyas AA

I swear the Angels are camera shy, but I managed to distract one here (he will eat out of my hand so I figured it was the best time to get a pic).

    Non Aquatic Plants?

Yes thats correct. Well lesson learned. Do you have anyone you recommend? I love plant geek! I found it a few weeks back when I was researching my Anubias. Thanks for the quick replies. What I have learned here is A: Caveat emptor. And B: Don't buy anything for your tank with out a bit of...

    Non Aquatic Plants?

Hello I recently set up a 55 gal tank. It has been running about 2 months now. About a month ago I bought some plants from a chain store, and at first they seemed to be doing well. However as time as gone on they all started to look "shabby". At first I thought it was my lights were not...

    Heyas AA

Hello I just wanted to say hi to everyone. I have been reading the forum for a few weeks now and decided to create an account. I really wish I had found this place sooner! All the local fish stores have gone out of buisness where I live, so I was relying on what the chain stores told me when I...

Back into Aquariums - 28 Gallon Bow

I am a newbie myself but have learned a few hard lessons fast so here is my 2 cents :D. First the cost of the API Master test kit is well worth it. I was sold the strips when we started also and found them to be unreliable. Not sure about the snail, maybe someone else could shed some light on...
