Quarantine him if you see signs of ich and treat him. You can use Cupramine, Hyposalinity or other forms of ich treatment. How long have you had him for?

I have heard here and there that too high ammonia levels will have a detrimental effect on live rock. If you are using cured live rock you will want to keep an eye on the ammonia. At least from what I have read on these boards.

You can tell if it has buffering capabilities with vinegar. If you pour some vinegar on the sand it will fizzle if aragonite/calcium is present. Good luck.

Great find canadian-eh I tried some vinegar as well to make sure that it was ok and I got a small reaction of one or two bubbles per second. Is this all I am looking for>? I was expecting it to froth up like a tums. Thanks
