    What do think happen to the ammonia? The nitrates break it down, it's part of the cycle. And I wasn't saying that just because the water is clear the cycle is done, I was saying its part of it. You have never seen how one day the water will look crystal clear toward the end of the cycle?

    Ok, you did the right thing doing a water change on the 10 gal. The ammonia went down because the nitrates were doing their thing in destroying the ammonia, that's what it does. The 60 gal is not doing anything because there is nothing there to produce ammonia. Now that you added one more fish...

    I hate fish in cycling....you have to have ammonia to produce nitrites, you have to have nitrites to produce nitrates. And you have to have nitrates to get rid of the ammonia. And having ammonia and nitrites in your tank while you have fish in the tank is very bad for the fish. And it lengthens...

    Just a word to the wise FishAngler, be very careful about the "colored" rock that you put into your aquariums. If the right type of paint isn't used, it can come off in the water and become toxic for your fish. I know you can get some great deals from the dollar store, I go there myself, but...

    Is your sand brown to tan? Or is it white? That to me makes the difference, the white is so much better for looking natural.

    That filter sound good for your tank, what most people go for is about 6 times your tank size per hour of filtration.
