    Pictus and Tigers tossed!

When I was at the LFS, I saw a tank w/ probably 100-150 cardinals and it was a spectacular display. It really showed me how nice they can look in huge groups. I'm glad I turned in the pictus now. Between the waste they created and lack of small fish options, they really limited the tank...

    Pictus and Tigers tossed!

How many cardinals do you think? You're right. It's been a few days and they are venturing off from the security of their school. The cherry barbs, surprisingly, have started schooling more than I thought they would. The pygmy cory cats are a trip. They just bustle about the bottom...

    Pictus and Tigers tossed!

Do red tails eat other fish or do they just chase them so badly that they stress them to death? Also, are you suggesting to add an extra angel in order to avoid the original angel going after smaller fish? The lemon tetras are a cool idea. Those are really beautiful fish.

    Pictus and Tigers tossed!

Angels vs. cardinals Good advice. Thanks! I never considered the angels eating small fish. That's funny considering that I was clearing out the nipping barbs on their behalf. The pictus were pretty rowdy in their own right. Any ideas of a shoaling fish for the mid-level to surface range...

    Pictus and Tigers tossed!

I think I found a good solution to my compatibility problem in the 55 gallon tank. I previously had 8 tiger barbs, 3 pictus cats, 1 red tail shark, 1 bala shark, 3 rainbows and a mystery snail. I kept noticing that smaller fish like danios ended up missing before, so the only offendor could...

Okay, I'll break the ice. How about a ram cichlid... or a pair of them?

    additional tankmate(s) for 55 gallon

I currently have a 55 gallon w/: 3 pictus cats 3 rainbows 8 tiger barbs 1 red tail shark 1 bala shark 1 mystery snail My youngest daughter has picked out fish that are supposedly compatible w/ the current ones and had the worst luck in having them die prematurely. I'm hoping she doesn't...

    Mystery snails and clown loaches

If I'm not mistaken loaches do eat snails. From what I remember, most loaches eat them. I'd read that loaches are often used for cleaning large snail populations out of a tank that have become a nuisance. Perhaps someone can verify that?

    Introduction / Algae Eating question

What I read about the bala is that you're better off either getting one or three or more. Obviously, getting three or more is entirely out of the question, but would only getting one bala stress it out? That's where I've read dissenting views. Some say it will absolutely get stressed out...

    Introduction / Algae Eating question

First of all, hello to everyone. I'm relatively new to this hobby, but have done lots of research into planning my tank. I've had it for about roughly 6 or 7 months now. What's interesting is that my intention was to turn my tank into a peaceful community tank in the beginning. I bought a 55...
