I don't know what else lives in your tank, but I have two large angels who lay eggs regularly. The babies hatch, but I also have platys and a gourami who are crafty predators for the young. So far none have made it, but I don't really have room for another angel, boss I consider it 'live food'...
I have two gourami's.....one Dwarf and one Blue 3-spot.....and two large angels together in my community 60-gallon. They all get along just fine! The only tensions are when the angels lay eggs, but they do that off in a corner so they just keep everyone away from that one corner.
Thanks, I'll give those suggestions a try. I'll probably start with even more plants, since they are a more natural solution. Id like to not try to play "Mother Nature" with chemicals if I can. I've never heard of the nitrate filter material but I'll try to find that too.I just wish I could...
Ok, I'll try to answer some questions, but I'm on my iPad so I can't see the original post while I type. I did use the API test kit, with the vials and droppers. Another confusing thing is that I tried using the dipsticks and got very different results. I've always been told they are...
I'm having problems getting my nitrates under control in my 60 gallon community tank. It's stocked with 2 medium Angels, 1 large blue Gourami, 2 Dwarf Gouramis, 1 Cremesicle Molly, and 8 platys. From what i can tell that isn't unreasonably stocked for a 60 gallon? I do weekly 30% - 40% water...
Thanks for all the help.....the algae isn't brushy or fuzzy looking, just like a dark green/black looking coating on the plants. I don't see it on the gravel, rocks, or anything else...just the plastic plants. I havent tried putting the plants in bleach before, since I didn't know if that was...
Thanks for the suggestion. I do have 2 Angels, both about the size of a raquetball in diameter, and a Blue Gourami about 3 1/2 inches. Do you think they would give the shrimps a hard time? Also, the plastic plants are about 24" tall and reach to the top of the tank. Would the shrimps climb...
I've had my 60-gallon community tank running for quite a while now (going on 3 years), but in the last year or so I've seen a gradual increase in this algae that I just can't get rid of. It's not the usual green-colored algae that I've normally seen in other tanks.....it's a dark, dark...
I've had the same problem with different varieties of Dwarf Gouramis in my tank. First they hide in the plants, and they just start wasting away. I started looking around the internet, and found that many commercially bred Gouramis suffer from something called "iridovirus". Here is an article...
Yikes! Sounds more like Minnesota! I've been here for about 8 years, and so far the coldest winter was a couple years ago. The temps were down in the low teens. We havent had one like that in a while. I'm really looking into a heater for them....I just don't want to run the electric bill up...
I'm guessing it's around 30 or so, although it looks like more than that to me. A standard wine barrel is 59 gallons, and this one is basically one barrel cut in half.
So I've taken the advice of a neighbor, and created a watergarden on my front entry porch. Because I live in an area where mosquitoes are a problem....and also because I just enjoy the look of fish in a pond-like setting, I want to add some goldfish to the watergarden. I live in Maryland, and...
I have a Leoprinus in my 55 gallon, and have had a similar problem between him and my large rainbow shark. In my case, they were having "spats" over hiding spaces and territories. I simply re-arrange the decor in my tank from time to time, when I see the tension rising, and this keeps the...
