    Bio-wheels w/ sump

Thanks guys. Raising fry in the sump would be great... until they got into the powerhead and shot into the tank! 8O

    CO2 loss in bubble counters

Thanks for the reply. I was assuming correct hook up. My suspision was about process of adding one more step ("middleman"). Also, I didn't know if the plastic parts "leak" CO2 considering you can't use just any type of hose (I have CO2-proof hosing).

    CO2 loss in bubble counters

Is there any (measurable) CO2 loss when using a bubble counter? (my solenoid does not have one, so I bought an Aqua Medic unit, http://www.aquacave.com/detail.aspx?ID=230). I'm using a pH controller, so should I hook up the bubble counter or not? I like being able to see that CO2 is running, but...

    Bio-wheels w/ sump

I am injecting CO2, which is why I wondered. I used them in a 55 gal. non-planted and liked their ability to trap particles and maintain good water quality. However, after buying a $250 sump it seems to me I shouldn't have to run additional filtration. I guess I was just being overly cautious...

    Bio-wheels w/ sump

Is it a good or bad idea to use bio wheels with carbon filtration in a planted tank? I have a 125 gal. with a Pro Clear Model 175 wet/dry filter. I also have two Emperor bio-wheels that I can run. Is that good, overkill, or just plain wrong? What about the bio-wheels' splashing? Does that...

    pH controller

rkilling1, that's what I thought. But what if the pH increased at night? Could the infusion of CO2 not be harmful? What about the bubble rate when using a pH controller?

    pH controller

Hello, I have ordered a pH controller (Milwaukee SMS-122). My question is: Do you leave the CO2 on for the controller 24 hrs/day, or do you "disable" it at night (shut off solenoid)? Currently I have my CO2 regulator (w/solenoid) on the same timer as my lights, so that it shuts off at night and...

    CO2 and O2 test kits

Actually, if you have a 125 gal. tank and use internal measurements, plus take into account substrate, plants, equipment (heater, overflow box/other filtration, etc.), you should have close to 100 gallons of water, i.e. 1.9 wpg. 4x96 becomes 3.8 wpg. Have you considered running all four only...

    CO2 downtime?

rkilling1 wrote: Good points. Don't know the type or brand of tubing, but it is supposedly rated for use with CO2. Not aware of any leaks. CO2 does not run at night. No pH controller, but that may be something to add in the future. CO2 goes into powerhead which disperses it into the tank. An...

    CO2 downtime?

Hello, What's the consensus on downtime between CO2 refills (pressurized)? Does it matter if your planted tank goes a day without CO2 added, or can it be disastrous? Do you guys have a replacement canister on hand? Also, how long does it usually take for a 5 lb. tank to run out? I have been...

    CO2 and O2 test kits

Thanks for the replies. I will use the KH and pH to determine CO2. BTW: Tank is 125 gal. with 192 Watts light, 6700K

    CO2 and O2 test kits

Hello, What do you recommend for testing your planted tanks for CO2? I have seen referenes to LaMotte. Also, Tetra has an O2 test kit. Do you typically measure both, or just one? How often? What is the range (in ppm) that should be strived for? Help is appreciated. Tom

    125 gal: CO2, lights?

Hello, I hope you guys on this forum can help me out. I have set up a 125 gallon (72"x18"x21") freshwater tank that I want planted (no plants yet). I have kept smaller planted tanks before (~20-30 gal.) but nothing this big. Filtration is a wet/dry filter. My questions are about CO2 and...
