    What was your first fish?

When I was 5, i won a goldfish at a fair. We brought it home in the bowl of coloured water, and put it into a cleaner, larger bowl. Then we moved to another continent not long after, but gave it to our neighbours. We expected the fish to live for a month or two. Somehow it lived 6 or 7 years...

    Am I almost cycled?

It looks like you have some nitrates, but are heavy on the ammonia. I'd say you're not quite done.

    Having tanks upstairs

I've got a 50g tank. It's on top of a very heavily-built bookshelf that covers about 14 sq feet. It's on the 2nd floor of my house, where 2 load-bearing walls meet. I'd like another tank, but it's a poorly-constructed building and I wouldn't trust another 700lbs of condensed weight in the only...

    55g cleanup crew?

I got an infestation of ugly translucent snails when i put real plants in. They were covering everything, so i bought a couple of Assassins. They look good, with the striped shells, and took care of the infestation really fast. :)

    Quarantine/Acclimation Tank

I don't think the heater and filter types would matter. As long as the water parameters and temperatures are the same, you should be good. Having said that, i have the same filters in my main and QT tanks. That's so i can move some of the filter media from the main aquarium to the QT when I...

    Having tanks upstairs

I think that would depend on the size of the room. If it's big enough to keep the weight loads on different joists, it should be fine. If they're really close and sharing support, i wouldn't risk it.

    Opaline gourami missing !?

I'm curious to see how this turns out. I've also had a couple of fish disappear without a trace, but assumed maybe they died overnight and my Assasin Snails made quick work of the corpses... It's just frustrating not to KNOW.

    55g cleanup crew?

I've got a Bristlenose Pleco, 6 Peppered Cory Cats, and a pair of Assasin Snails in my 50g. They're always busy cleaning, but they don't have much of an impact. I do the cleaning... As for the snails, i've had them for around 6 months and they haven't multiplied...

POLL: Guppies: Feeding Fry as Food or Buy All Same Sex

I can't say for sure, but fry is certainly more natural and normal than Nemo finding flakes and pellets in his natural habitat.

POLL: Guppies: Feeding Fry as Food or Buy All Same Sex

I can't say for sure, but I'd think the variety would be beneficial. Not to mention that it's more natural than flakes or pellets.

POLL: Guppies: Feeding Fry as Food or Buy All Same Sex

I had the same concern when I put 6 Platies in my tank. I made sure that they were all female, to avoid the male aggression and loads of fry. Still, the females can become pregnant long after the males have been separated... In a year, i've probably seen at least a dozen fry appear in the tank...

    Where have you found driftwood??

I bought mine at the local pet store, and just boiled it for a while to get the tannins out.

Thanks for the feedback. I'll keep an eye on them, but don't expect trouble. :thumb:

    Community Betta?

Hi All, 6 weeks ago I bought a Crowntail betta. 4 weeks ago I moved him from my QT to my 50 gallon community tank (with a pleco, rummynose tetras, dwarf spotted danios, cories, mollies, and platies. I've kept an eye on him, and so far they all seem to be getting along. No aggression, no...
