You should have no issues. If you have someone feeding in your absence, you could have them feed every other day to help reduce fish waste in the tank. They certainly won't starve and will help reduce parameter fluctuations.

Is there any other equipment or just the tank ? I wouldn't hesitate to sterilize it with a 10% bleach solution if you're getting all the components. Run for 8 hours, drain, rinse, fill with fresh tap and run for 12-24 hours. Repeat the drain and refill with fresh tap and allow to run another...
I've never had luck with peppermints and coral. Only thing I could offer is using two nets. One in front and one behind.

Buy a liquid test kit and test your tap water as well. Look for nano fish that are suitable for that small of a tank. If you have a tank running already you can skip all the junk additives, add your new filter to your existing tank, and in two weeks it will be seeded and ready for fish.

Bring the goldfish back. It's best for them in the long run. Since your tap appears to be showing ammonia, you may need to consider RO instead.

As I mentioned in your other thread (asked mods to merge) the 2 goldies in the 20g is extremely overstocked. To keep the two together, at least a 40g and preferably a 50g as they are extreme waste makers. As well, they're a cold water fish and don't do well with tropicals.

I can't really tell about the spot. From what I've ever read is most call for at least 30g while some say 20g is acceptable. And that's for just one. I have also seen many say at least 50g but my presumption would be he's overly stressed. What other tank mates are there and what are you using to...
