    Odd behavior from Copperband Butterfly

Hi there! We have a 4ft x 2ft x 2ft tank + 150L sump in the cupboard underneath. Tank occupants are 1 flame angel, 1 naso tang, 1 power blue tang, 1 yellow tang, 1 B/W clown (who thinks he's a tang), 1 cleaner shrimp and 1 mysterious pistol shrimp. Mitchell0605, we're in Sydney, in the...

    Odd behavior from Copperband Butterfly

Well I should add that we bought him to eat the aiptasia. But he didn't even look at it. We've pulled the majorly infected rocks out this week, cause it was so prolific in the tank. All he likes to do is look at his reflection in the tank....

    Odd behavior from Copperband Butterfly

Hi all, So we bought a Copperband Butterfly about 3 weeks ago. He's acting odd. He's just living in the left hand back corner of the tank, and not moving from it. When he first moved in, he got majorly harassed by the powder blue tang, but that seems to have settled down now. We pulled the...

We think we have a mantis...

We found the mantis! Hi all, Thought I'd update you all on our adventures here. We've got aiptasia as well as this mantis issue, and we got a copperband butterfly to help out. Unfortunatly, the very lovely power blue tang was giving the butterfly soo much grief that it barely moved outta...

    New organism

Hi all, Suddenly, in the last few weeks, this little thing has appeared in our tank... Any ideas what it is? Sorry, the pic might be a bit hard to see. Its about 10mm in diameter, and its brown-ish colour in the middle, with a green rim on the outside. Its quite pretty actually.... Thanks!!

    Is this aiptasia?

LOL, thanks Kurt! I probably could have been waiting an awful long time for a Copperband Shrimp to eat it then! I obviously misheard her. Thanks for the advise. We'll remove the rocks. Of course its the 2 largest, best rocks, right the way down the bottom.... Oh well... Vox

    Is this aiptasia?

Holy Toledo! mdfrookie, hope that's not your tank! That's not pretty. Thanks for the confirmation though. Thankfully no, that's not what ours looks like. 2 entire LRs are covered, and we can't see many other rocks that are effected. We are considering just taking these rocks out? We...

    Is this aiptasia?

Hi all, We have this "growth" in our tank, all over a few of our LR. We have had a few large aiptasia, which our peppermint shrimp had taken care off. However, we haven't seen the shrimp for a few weeks now... MIA... (We have a mantis shrimp we haven't been able to get rid of, and I suspect...

We think we have a mantis...

Hmmm.... As I figured. Thanks for confirming my suspicions. OK, so my next question is probably a little silly, but what the heck, I'll ask anyway. We have about.... 25 pieces of LR. And of course, its all piled on top of each other, making a gorgeous rock scape. This mantis shrimp could...

We think we have a mantis...

Wow so many replies. Thanks all! I wondered if it were a pistol shrimp. I've heard that pistol's click 1 or 2 times, but mantis's click multiple? Is that true? We just get click, click, click, click ... sometimes 10 in a row, then sometimes just the occasional click. And the loudness...

We think we have a mantis...

Hi all, We think we have a mantis shrimp. We hear clicking. Lots of clicking. And something ate my spotted manderin fish :(. So far, that's all we've lost in terms of fish and inverts. We do have lots and lots of little snails, so hard to determine if we've lost any of those. I've...

    Pink things growing in tank

Hi all, Thanks for replying. We had considered foraminiferans, but they look fluffier than that in real life. Unfortunately its hard to see with the pic size being so small!! I think its just coraline as Zero suggested. We do have a lot of it already, but this was just different. Thanks...

    Pink things growing in tank

Hi all, We have these pretty little pink lumps growing on our LR. Perhaps they are coraline polyps? We started with a small clump of them (circled in one of the pics) and now they are spreading on to other rocks in the tank. Thanks for your help! Vox
