I bought the nitrate and nitrite tests and they are both normal. ph is at 6.5 and ammonia is 0.1. I tried the flash light trick and my venustus glowed a gold color and my jewel seemed to have a bit of gold color on him as well. Is that enough evidence to say that they have velvet??

I went through something similar. I had ich, I treated it and it seemed to have gone away. My fish are still scratching though. Do you notice them rubbing up against things in tank or twitching? If you do, then it is probably a different parasite...maybe velvet.

I'm at a month of dealing with ich now. I used meds, like 3 boxes in about 2 weeks. Salt and heat for about 12 days. Now I'm using Coppersafe. Hope you have better luck that me.

Yes Darby, the decorations and gravel did stay wet. My tank is pretty much cycled now and it only took about 4 weeks to do it, so that's pretty good. I actually added a fish to the tank, so with you mentioning about the new fish, I might be going back to thinking its ICH. With them scratching...

Thanks Neilanh! I needed some reassurance that I was doing the right thing with the salt and temperature. I am using a food temperature thermometer to check the temp. It is digital and I trust it more than the strip on the side of the tank. I won't use the meds and I'll wait a while longer. So...
