    Euthanizing

Humane enough, when it comes to euthanizing there is really no right or wrong unless you really try to stretch it out. Clove oil is my first choice, then vodka. I've never tried the cold "ice" water before.

    Using Seachem Paraguard.

Agree with above also. Detritus and less common planaria worms are usually caused from either over feeding your fish or not vacuuming your gravel enough. Either way physical maintenance of the tank and lighter feedings will reduce them.

    Please ID this Pleco

I agree with the (L-83) Sailfin "leopard" ID. Looks to have about 13 rays on the dorsal fin meaning it's some type of Pterygoplichthys, as there are many different types beyond your "common" sailfin. He's still got a lot of growing to do! I've see specimens in the 20" range and if they are...

How long do fish (Neon Tetras) live?

What is your tank temp? Neons like it in the cooler range (76F). If your tank temp is 80F or higher their life span will greatly be reduced.

    Free: Neon Tetras

Anybody interested in the southern Minnesota/Iowa border to take my school if 15 neons off my hands? My firemouth is getting too big and soon they will just be spendy snacks.

    Appistograma

Okay besides your opinion on them not needing an established tank, you pretty much said everything I did besides you added the factor of water hardness. Just because you've kept over 30 species of anything doesn't mean a thing if you can't keep them alive.. most apistos I know of live to be 5-7...

    Firemouth Photo shoot

My young adult male Firemouth finally was still enough to snap a few pictures of him, he's definitely king of the 29g!

Unless you find a wild pair, they will adjust just fine to your pH. Stable water parameters will be your biggest factor in keeping apistos. Consistent tempatures, low nitrates, and They will adapt to your pH just fine as long as they are acclimated correctly. Most fish I keep are supposed to be...

    Aquarium is too basic!

Agree with above, I live in Minnesota and my pH is 8.0-8.2. We have very hard water too off the scale Gh and kH. I keep three betta, Red cherry shrimp, neon tetra, firemouth cichlids, three BN Pleco and guppies. (Multiple tanks of course) None of them have any problems at all adapting to the...

New Member and Question about FW Lighting

I'm willing to bet your saltwater LED light has a very cool color spectrum around 10k and an actinic blue spectrum light. If you do plan on having a planted tank you will want to get a different light around 6500k-7500k in color range as this will be the closest to natural daylight. Depending...

Can anyone tell what kind of snail this is?

Hard to tell from that angle, but it looks like a bladder snail or common pond snail.

    Apistogramma are my passion....

Your hongsloi is making me super jealous.. it may be time for a new tank. If I may ask, where did you acquire him?

    Bogwood

Just remember it slowly will lower your pH if it has any effect at all. I don't notice a difference in pH with or without driftwood as my tanks are all overstocked slightly and require a total of 50% water changed every week, causing the pH to pretty much rise back to what my tap water is.
