My house is off city water, and our tap water has a little nitrite in it but no chlorine. I use out filtered drinking water for waterchanges and do no treatment for it at all. No problems with it for the last 3 years. If you have chlorine though it’s important to get it out... with cuty water...
AqAdvisor - Intelligent Freshwater Tropical Fish Aquarium Stocking Calculator and Aquarium Tank/Filter Advisor Use this site to see if your fish are compatible. At the bottom of this site it will tell you if the fish are compatible or not or if they need more fish of one type or anything. Much...
Get that ammonia level below .5 immediately! Using some prime water conditioner in the mean time while you do your water changes should help lower the toxicity of that ammonia and nitrite. Some of those quick starts just add nitrates to the tank and don’t actually help with cycling. There are...
Agreed that a picture would help, could be sediment from the substrate, or water from the tap... how long did you soak the driftwood for? I want to start doing more stuff with driftwood myself.
What is the scientific name of the fish? That is so sad! Its really hard when a fish friend passes, it could have been something internal, a lingering issue from before you got the fish (especially considering it had fungus before you even had it), or old age. I am unsure how long this type of...
The plants are “melting” which means they are adjusting to their new home. Was your tank already cycled? It looks like the cycle slowed on you with the ammonia and nitrate amount.
Melting plants will produce ammonia so you might want to do more water changes until you start to see new growth on...
Its too much food generally and seems to cause an ammonia spike. I would just overfeed a little bit the day before and if its too long have a good friend housesit and store the correct amount of food in ziplocks on a pill container, not my idea but it works great!
It looks like that size of tank is too small. Generally you want to plan for the full size of fish when you put them in a tank, so a fish that gets as big as a dinner plate should have a lot of room, angelfish can get quite large and thus should probably have more then 50 gallons of space to...
Potentially a change in pH? I dont know why it would effect the cichlids so greatly... did the wood effect the water of whatever it has been soaking in?
Depending on where you supplied the fish could be the issue for the guppies. I havent had good luck with any typical store ones, but great luck with specific local aquarium places.
Also is your water temperature different? If you can currently I would put one of those intake sponges (fry guard...
One thing that could potentially help is more females to disperse his aggression a little more.
Sometimes though some fish just are more aggressive then the rest and cause trouble.
It would be easier to understand and answer your posts if you kept them all in one tread instead of making new ones each time, just reply to one of yours for each new question you have.
This is great for stocking and water change suggestions
